You can probably order one through Stachowski or the Organic Butcher in McLean.

Was that directed to me or to PollyG (or to both)?

Ah, thanks. Stachowski's is actually very convenient for me, but I've never had them special-order anything. Is the cost likely to be even higher than their already impressive price-tags?

that, I just don't know.  Worth a phone call to find out.  Maybe the butcher in Eastern Market can get one for you?

Regarding a capon for Thanksgiving, I've ordered one online from D'Artagnan. Not cheap, but it wasn't going to be cheap wherever I got it. I'll comment on it once I've received, cooked, and eaten it.

Does anyone have a clue as to where I might find pickled ramps?  Thanks!

I suspect you're looking for something much quicker than mail order, but if you're not, I found this site:

https://www.bethsfar.../pickled-ramps/

I was just using the google to see if they'd show up at a place like D'Artagnan and this is what I found.

Thanks. Yeah, I have procrastinated on a NYE recipe, and find myself rampless.

I'm going to order these anyway just to see how they are!

call Society Fair.  I don't know if they have them, but they're the sort of place that might.

This isn't something Erik Bruner-Yang might have at Honeycomb in Union Market, is it?

Thanks for the leads everyone.  Great ideas.  I'll update folks on where they can be found if/when I find them.

They definitely had them earlier in the year (as I supplied some of them)- not sure currently.

John -

Do you grow them yourself or forage them in the wild?  I tried to plant them a couple years ago and had very sad results.

They were foraged in West VA. I have tried planting them various places on my farm repeatedly with exactly zero success.

I have given up. There are plenty of delicious and interesting things that will grow happily here- you can only do so much fighting nature. This year's first experiment is going to be oyster leaf- seed just arrived from France.

Interesting.  Never heard of them, but I'll have to look them up.

Do you grow purple asparagus?  I love them but I never see them at my local farmer's market.  Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but I'm surprised I don't see them just for the weirdness/unique factor.  Mine seem to do better than my green ones.

Eric has them again at Union Market, and they are delicious.

Fiona at District Fishwife has had them in the past. I bet if you call over, she could order some for you.
