Valentine's Day Restaurant Nightmares

So ... I have it on good word from a GM at a nice restaurant that a couple (neighborhood residents, first-time visitors) was sitting there last night at a two-top, miserable from the minute they sat down. They complained about anything and everything, and it got to the point where they were affecting the mood of all tables within earshot. They ordered a $40 bottle of wine, and two $60 dinners. Ten minutes (and this was apparently timed) after their appetizers were cleared, they loudly and angrily complained that their entrees hadn't yet arrived. When the entrees arrived, they were making the surrounding tables so miserable that the GM asked them if they'd like to go ahead and have their dessert packaged to-go, and that the entire check be comped - they agreed. And they also finished every bite of both their appetizers and entrees, and drank every drop of wine. And after they had finished, they got up and left without waiting for their dessert to arrive, without paying a dime for the dinner or the wine, without saying thank you, and without leaving a tip.

How was your night(mare)?

Are you serious? Sounds like they were perfectly suited to be each others valentine, no one normal could put up with that. My Valentine's story-everyone in my family totally forgot about Valentine's Day, & Lizzy was mortified when all her friends gave her valentines & candy at school yesterday. Today, her school had a 3 hour delay, so we ran out & scooped up tons of candy & treats, & it was all 50% off...an unintentionally delayed, but frugal celebration...

Maybe they were just in a real big hurry to get back home B). (Takeout or delivery would have been better options.)

The last time my husband and I ate in a restaurant on Valentine's Day was probably more than a decade ago at Bistro Bis, when it was a fairly new restaurant. It wasn't a nightmare--things were more or less okay--but it seemed that they had packed extra tables in and reconfigured the floor plan to fit more people and it was a really claustrophobic environment. It certainly wasn't very romantic to be shoulder-to-shoulder with all those other couples.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but are there any restaurants in NoVa or DC that AREN'T nightmares on V-Day? I'm looking for places that have more or less regular service and not the fixed price amateur night rip-offs. Vegetarian-friendly would be good. Price: $100 - $150 all in (for a couple of course).
