[This is not something I originally wanted to have in this forum [The Washington, DC Restaurants and Dining Forum], but too many people have chimed in for me to remove it at this point. Go ahead and keep this thread going, and I'll eventually move it to another forum. Please limit the out-of-area stuff until I catch up and figure out what to do with threads like this one. I'm still way behind in membership, populating threads, technical issues, etc. (This site was not supposed to be this big, this soon, and it has blindsided me.) Cheers! Rocks.]

My younger sister lives in Philly and has started sampling the dining scene (now, mostly limited to RW outings, etc). I thought she would really enjoy a community similar to what we have in this website, in terms of the casual get-togethers and happy hours, etc.

Would egullet in Philly or chowhound serve this role or is there another organization or website that you would recommend?

Thanks!

Egullet has a strong cadre of serious and passionate restaurant pro's and foodies who really care about the dining scene there. Often times, there are regular contributors from NYC who do roadtrips down to Philly to sample the byob's and such.

If she wants information about "local joints" as I would call them, for say a specific neighborhood such as Manyunk, Roxborough or Pennsport then I'd recommend asking on www.phillyblog.com.

Generally phillyblog members have the 411 on the local "best of" pizza, byob, Italian, hoagies, cheesesteaks. Generally they are not posting about SS restaurants or Le Bec Fin, but for good ol' good eats I believe she could get some very good pointers.

I've been told that, with very few exceptions, this website is unique and stands alone when it comes to various cities. I look at others (mouthfuls, LTH, etc.), and just cannot take them very seriously. The titling, for example - that's something I take great pride in, something that takes a lot of my time, and something that nobody else does worth a darn. I would *love* to find another forum like ours, and would write the owner and discuss a potential merger, but I have honestly not found any that are up to my standards. I'm sure that sounds arrogant, but it is the God's truth. There are several things in this world that I do very well, and knowing how to run a forum is one of them - it's 50% intuition, 50% perspiration, and 50% determination to bring joy to other peoples' lives; the ironic thing is that I sometimes need to be somewhat of a prick to do it (and I *hate* that).

That said, I enjoy reading Craig LaBan's reviews online on Philly.com. If we can ever find someone qualified to be a Philadelphia Forum Host, one thing I would ask is that LaBan's reviews are linked to whenever he comes out with them.
