Barbara
This story is simply unbelievable: or a testimony on how not to respect customers and employees http://shine.yahoo.com/work-money/kitchen-nightmare-comes-true-for-arizona-restaurant-owners-182329445.html I was wondering when this story would "grace" this site. i usually watch this show just for the train-wreck aspects of it, but missed last Friday's show for whatever reason. The ensuing web storm sent me to YouTube to see what happened. I never cease to be amazed at the cluelessness of most of the principals. Once again, the "tell" was the desire for the "chef" to bring in Ramsay to rebut the "Haters and Bullies" on the intertubes about her food and the service. You know, those damn Yelp reviewers and BLOGGERS. Oops. I also have wondered how these places manage to get the attention of Ramsay's production company. They must have sensed a gold mine in these two psychos. Has there ever been more publicity for a foodie reality show? I think not. Since Samy admitted on tape that he kept the tips and one of the waitrons stated that she works for an hourly wage only, I expect the authorities, if not the credit card companies, to get involved. The IRS might want to improve their image by looking at the books (I'm particularly interested in whether or not the restaurant reported the income for tips!!??? on its tax return. Any bets here?). It's already been noted that Amy is a convicted felon for identity theft, and rumors are rife about her previous occupation, and Samy was in "construction" before he opened this restaurant for his trophy wife. Makes me wonder what other stuff is going to come out about the activities of these two. If ever there was a case of "Be Careful What You Wish For" this is it. I expect we will be hearing from lawyers of all kinds involved in this mess for a very long time to come. I have no dog in this hunt--but, would somebody please pass me the popcorn?
DrXmus
Fascinating show and story but I screamed at the TV the entire time I was watching. I couldn't believe the neurosis and the psychosis Amy had. I couldn't believe that they screamed at their customers like that. I couldn't believe that Sammy damn near hit the young buck who didn't feel like he needed to pay for drinks (and maybe apps?) because the food didn't come for over an hour. I am constantly amazed that when Ramsey says the food sucks ass, they say no one has complained before...but they're calling him because people aren't coming in any more. Watching the show truly is like watching a train wreck and I enjoy it every week (except when I get disgusted that I have likely eaten in a joint with a filthy kitchen).

I will shamelessly admit to reading the yelp reviews and any other piece of internet garbage on this couple/restaurant I can find. I've heard more talk about this episode then the rest of the ones combined. It's linked everywhere. Heck, they might start looking for more episodes like this...I wonder how soon before Restaurant: Impossible (a shameful love of mine) will have something similar. It almost has before... Agreed 100%. Bar Rescue needs to do something different soon or it will collapse on itself. My theory (I always have a theory) - people like the mix of predictability and novelty. What these shows need to realize is that the predictability comes from the personalities, NOT the show format. So for instance, Bar Rescue is succeeding on the back of Jon Taffer's strong personality, NOT because he surveys / runs a stress test / does a makeover / has a successful rebranding each week. Same with Restaurant Impossible and Kitchen Nightmares. People want Gordon Ramsey and Robert Irvine. They don't care that restaurants go from bad to a-bit-better-than-mediocre. So what to do? Have a walkout show - a "too failed to fix" episode like this one sounds like. Have a reunion show. Have a followup (secret stakeout) show where they visit 4 former places and judge them on how much they've improved. ANYTHING different from the same tired format every time. In fact, if I ran such a show I'd insist that for every 7 "regular format" shows there be one that breaks the format and builds from a different angle. Deadliest Catch figured this out along the way...looks like Kitchen Nightmares figured it out too. Now for Bar Rescue, Restaurant Impossible, Restaurant Steakout and Hotel Impossible. Lather, rinse, repeat. Here's an local TV interview with Amy and Samy from last evening. Is employment in Scottsdale so bad that so many people would try to get a job at this place? DonRocks
I just watched this episode of Kitchen Nightmare start-to-finish, and - with perhaps the exception of a few original Japanese Iron Chef shows, many years ago - it is the first food-related television show I have ever watched in its entirety. Ever. And I *loved* it. Now, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this thread. Is this what I've been missing over the years?! One thing I missed - although it was obvious Ramsay "knew" those desserts weren't homemade from the beginning, I don't remember him pointing it out. Did he? monavano
KN didn't show Gordon busting Amy for passing off her pastries as her own, but it was suspicious that the first thing Gordon did was tuck into dessert and ask repeatedly if she made the baked goods. Many people online were suspicious from the beginning, just from looking at her kitchen, which didn't seem to be equipped for serious baking. So when will their reality show debut? monavano
Apparently, they're fielding reality tv show offers. They also want to sell you a bridge... "When we last left off with Amy and Salomon “Samy” Bouzaglo, husband-and-wife owners of Amy’s Baking Company in Scottsdale, the couple said they were finalizing talks about starring in their own reality show. They said details would be revealed yesterday on television newsmagazine “Inside Edition,” but they weren’t. The show did not confirm it was working with the Bouzaglos. It isn’t clear whether the show was nixed or just delayed. Neither the couple nor the show responded to requests for comment." Article. I'm shocked, shocked!
