DonRocks
We're going to be having a dr.com dinner at Amoo's which, like last time, will be BYOB - we'll take over the entire restaurant, and have it all to ourselves. There will be no charge for bringing your own alcohol, but please remember that the staff must wash the stemware. They're also working on an evening they may normally have off, so please tip them generously. The tips are not going to Sebastian; they're going to the waitstaff. It would also be wonderful if people could bring their own stemware, corkscrews, etc., just like they're going to a wine tasting at someone's house. Bring plenty of wine, and share generously with your neighbors and the staff should they want any. The first order of business is determining the date. Sun, Feb 1, 2015 is Super Bowl Sunday so is out - that leaves us with two other Sundays: Jan 18, or Jan 25. While the starting time is TBD, figure it will be something "normal" - 6:30, 7, or 7:30. I favor the early end so people can get home at a reasonable hour, but that's to be determined later. If it's unanimous, we could even start earlier - 6, or even 5:30. That way, you could get home at 8 or thereabouts, and prepare yourself for the work week. So here's a poll: Please pick all dates that you can (and will) attend. Please don't answer this poll unless you're *sure* you will (not just "can," but *will* attend on the dates you select). The date has been cast in stone: Sunday, January 15, 2015. Be there or be carré. Sebastian will be serving, among other things, his famous "Stuffed Squash" dishes. I truly believe he will become renown for this fantastic dish, and I want everyone here to share in its glory. Feel free to add some input as to starting time, but please remember that not every time will accomodate everyone. This will be a wonderful dinner, an absolute bargain, and a fantastic time will be had by all.
DanielK
Don, as it turns out I can only attend on the 18th, but there didn't seem to be a way to vote for BOTH dates. Can you edit to either allow multiple votes, or add an "either" option?

porcupine
The first order of business is determining the date. Sun, Feb 1, 2015 is Super Bowl Sunday so is out Seriously? Oh, well. Super Bowl Sunday is a great day to dine out, usually you can walk in anywhere and get a table.

Pat
I'm the one who pointed out that Feb. 1 was the date of the Super Bowl. It was an FWIW/FYI comment. For some people that makes no difference at all, or it's even a benefit (as Porcupine mentions). But it seemed worth mentioning so that people didn't commit to a meal that night and then realize it conflicted with the game. There are possibly enough people on the site who dislike football that there could be a whole meal that night just for them.
lovehockey
Just voted for the 18th for myself and a +1. I'm a fan of starting on the earlier side, like 6 or 6:30.

There are possibly enough people on the site who dislike football that there could be a whole meal that night just for them. I'm certainly willing to put the date into the poll, but I'd hate for anyone who wants to watch both to be left out. Question: is there anyone who can *only* come on Super Bowl Sunday? (I hope the answer is no.) Trying to please the maximum number of people is hard, it really is. Especially when you genuinely care (like I do). One thing to consider: Restaurants will be empty on Super Bowl Sunday, so you can go wherever you please without much problem; we'll be guaranteed to have full-run of Amoo's dining room when it's *not* Super Bowl Sunday, on a night when they'd normally have other customers preventing us from BOOBing (Bringing Our Own Beer). For this reason alone, I think it's best to leave Super Bowl Sunday out of contention. Seb, for those who can't make this event, could you do a third in the Spring? (And obviously, please feel free to invite your best customers and friends who aren't dr.com members - it would be wonderful if we could all make some new friends here, and you know I'll bend over backwards for them if they join our community.) Speaking of which, it would be wonderful to have a Capitol Tour available for new members as sort of a "Welcome Wagon" gesture.
Chef Seb
Marry Xmas folks, I will be doing plenty of DR events in the future, so spring is a definitely a go. Ideally, the 18th works better for me too. By looking at the polls, I can already see that the 18th is preferred by most. And just like Don said, not a lot of restaurants will give up their busy Sunday night business. Now, Im gladly doing this because I love this site and it's loyal members. But believe me is not easy to give up as night just like that. With that being said, the 18th would keep things very smooth. Don, please let me know if that's ok with you so I can get the ball rolling on my end. Thank you and Happy Holidays everyone.. Chef Seb
bettyjoan
This event sounds incredible - I hope everyone enjoys! We will be out of town (bummer), but I will keep my eyes peeled for the announcement of a spring date. Yum!

Chef Seb
Sunday, January 18th it is. The event will start at 6pm and will end around 9pm. To confirm your reservations, please either call 703-448-8500 or email me directly at chefsebastian@amoosgrill.com I will also create a invite and will send it out to those of you who are connected to me via Facebook very shortly. Folks, don't forget to bring your own wine and/or spirits. We have wine glasses and we will be able to cork your bottles without a corkage fee. The cost per person for this event is $60 which includes tax and gratuity. It'll be a pre fixe dinner menu that will consist of 5 of my signature dishes, including the stuffed squash. In the meantime, ill look for a flamenco guitarist or a pianist to play live music while you guys are enjoying yourselves with good food and a good conversation over a glass wine. Looking forward to seeing all of you on the 18th.. Thanks, Chef Seb

If there's room, Lady KN and I will join.... Make sure you all call and reserve - I think that's how it's going to work. (I had a an incredible stuffed squash this week - this is one of my favorite everyday dishes in town ("everyday" meaning something I could eat on a daily basis without financial or caloric guilt. It's not "cheap" per se, but the squash alone is easily worth $10.)
Chef Seb
Thanks Don for the compliment. Chef Seb
Hey guys, As we are approaching the event, I really need to know who's coming and how many people will be joining your party in order to accommodate everyone accordingly. I have a lot of you down on my list. And Some of you have stated on this site that you will be attending but still have not confirmed with me yet. Please RSVP as soon as possible by shooting me an email to chefsebastian@amoosgrill.com soon as I expect this event to be completely sold out like the last one we did early 2014. Thank you and happy new year!! Chef Seb
DonRocks
After two recent orders at Amoo's, including a giant-sized meal-for-five last night, I remain convinced this is the best Persian food in the DC area, and has been for a couple of years. This dinner is a giveaway, given that there's free corkage. Do not miss it. If there's any empty seats, I'm taking it as personal failure because this is one I'm willing to stick my neck out for. Please call *now* and reserve your spots. If they close, call tomorrow. Let's get this filled without a lot of hassle so they *want* to do another one. If they have to fight to fill it - which would be *entirely* due to piss-poor marketing on my part - they might not be so willing next time. This is a great restaurant, and we're very lucky to have it in our midst. We're even luckier that they're showing us some love. Please don't disappoint them. Let's show them what we're made of. Cheers, Rocks
