Crumbs and Whiskers - Cat Cafe Receives $15,000 On Kickstarter, Wisconsin Avenue and O Street in Georgetown

I can't think of a more ridiculous concept, except maybe if Rachel Ray and Guy Fieri did a show from there, and there were lots of Kardashians there. The fall of our society is coming....

Well, maybe now you've gone too far, KN. This does seem a new high-water mark for the culinary inane. But, how soon we forget.

There was...this:

The Cereal Bowl

Cat cafes are very popular in Japan.

One of the Kickstarter donation incentives for this place was to have the name of someone you dislike, such as an ex, written on a litter box in permanent marker.

It will be interesting to see how it does, because it will be on a reservation system and they'll charge by the hour or half hour, which will also cover beverages and food.  I guess they're betting on people being willing to plan ahead so the owners/staff can control the crowd and make sure they can actually pet a cat.

There are cat cafes in NYC and other places.  I love cats.  Maybe I love them because they seem to love me (dogs, not so much).  Cats and tea or coffee shops seem a great combination (unless you hate cats).  Their presence is very soothing (again, unless you hate them).

As a serious matter, I apologize. Was wrong of me to call the idea "stupid" (a tag) or "absurd."

The funny thing is, I don't even dislike cats. And, posted somewhere earlier thus week an umbrella philosophy: I hate no one as applied to any human or creature. More a dog guy myself but know many cool cats, speaking literally. And, didn't have a clue there was precedent for this.

I herby revise my thinking on whether this succeeds to "unsure." And, Cereal Bowl was clearly a more foolish idea by a big margin.

Pat, I'm near certain my dog would love you if you met him. One day maybe.

I love the idea. Cats are, despite what some people say, very social creatures. Helping some of these cats find homes is a great idea. Says the man who has 7 cats, and manages a small (mostly TNR-ed) feral colony outside his back door.

I also love the idea. As someone whose lifestyle doesn't allow for a pet, it would be nice to be around one for an hour while reading and having a coffee.

Wonderful post, Pool Boy.  We have two cats who sleep in bed with us.  I must also add that I have never had children but I still visit my son who is buried in Noah's Ark Pet Cemetary even though he passed 27 years ago.  We have also rescued, as you, a number of others.  If you give a lot of love to a cat or a dog they will give it back unconditionally.

Not sure where this post belongs so please move as appropriate. My nieces wanted to check this place out so we went last Sunday. As far as food offerings (the Crumb part), it is very skimpy. I think there were maybe 2 types of cookies you could order along with some coffee drinks and shakes. I ordered a shake for my niece. After about 20 minutes, they told us they ran out of one of the ingredients. It wasn't worth ordering something else since we only had about 20 minutes left on our shift. They did have many cats (the Whisker part), and it is a cute space. I think the cats are overstimulated as 2 of them swatted at me. Everyone is just all over them! The staff are very nice and really helpful. As someone who volunteers with cat rescue, I have lots of opportunities to hang out with cats for free, but my nieces really loved it and are already talking about returning.

You're worried about nothing. I don't hate cereal; yet I thought The Cereal Bowl was absurd as well.

Al, this doesn't belong in News and Media - would you call Crumbs and Whiskers a "restaurant" or a "coffee house?"

Between the two, it is more of a coffee house. However, they didn't seem to be selling many coffees either. Its mostly a cat house (and no, not a brothel!)
