bookluvingbabe
It has been so long since I did any dining in New York. I need to organize a dinner for 6-8 people, somewhere near-ish Bryant Park, following a memorial service next month. While good food is important, the highest priority is somewhere that isn't too loud and where we can get a stiff drink. No one will willingly get onto the subway so an easy walk or quick cab ride would be helpful. Thanks!
ALB
I have a non-foodie rec. If you truly just want a quiet place to congregate and talk, Uncle Nick's is a greek place across time square in hells kitchen (50th and 9th).The food is greek american- gyros, lamb chops, kabobs, dips etc. My sister and I always go there when we arrive at night. It is a great place to catch up and have a satisfying, filling meal after traveling. There is nothing trendy about it, but the people are nice and the food is what you want it to be and the place has been quiet when I've been there. About a 10 minute brisk walk from Bryant Park.
dcs
Keens Steakhouse is about 4 blocks south of Bryant Park.
bookluvingbabe
Thanks for the ideas! And we're doing none of them, mostly because I was outranked by the boss's wife so we are heading downtown... But *I* am (fingers-crossed that my train continues to cooperate) having lunch at the Modern before the service.
