Stairway to Heaven, generally acclaimed as one of the great rock and roll songs of all time; a rousing anthem.

In this 2012 rendition at the Kennedy Center, we see it performed by Heart.  A rousing version.  Watch for the Obama's and Yo Yo Ma as they rock out!!!

Yup, STH is overplayed to death right along with Freebird and a bunch of other classics. But it's a classic for a reason-- fuckin' awesome from beginning to end. Cool lyrics, beautiful guitar work, and a final stanza that sends chills down my spine:

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll
Ooooooooooooh

You can't see Led Zep live anymore (duh), but if you get the chance, go see Robert Plant. I saw him last year at WolfTrap and easily half the show was the old stuff. You could tell how much he enjoys performing, and the Sensational Space Shifters rocked out. It was one of the best live shows I've seen in quite some time.

Rock out with your cock out,

Al
