Looking for a New-ish Semi-Upscale or Upscale Restaurant, Preferably One in NW that Takes Reservations and Has a Patio

So, would love to hear any ideas regarding a new (ish) semi-to-upscale restaurant, preferably but not necessarily in NW DC, preferably but not necessarily one where one could make a reservation.  For a benchmark: Crane and Turtle was the the first choice. Outdoor dining a plus.

Can you narrow these criteria down some? What calls out to you on these lists, for example? (This isn't just for you - filling in the title and tags helps out people in the future, too.)

Not in NW, but what about Garrison?  They take reservations.  I've been thinking of heading there next week.

The point is kind of to be open to suggestion.  Though in looking over the lists, it's interesting to see that the vast majority are ethnic, aggressively casual or seemingly more interested in style than food.  Centrolina, Thally, maybe DC Harvest (though something about their website makes me suspicious) Macon, Bidwell...A proper Restaurant where you can get a proper meal, linger for a bit and hear yourself think.

There's a thought. Not sure how far these guys want to travel, but I'll get by soon enough (I hope).

The Grill Room @ Capella has outdoor seating along the C&O Canal.  Fiola Mare also does outdoor seating.  Le Diplomate?

Capella sounds great, thanks.  I seem to recall that FM does their patio first-come, first served, which works out when you are eating with people with a babysitter.  Not sure their budget -- Crane and Turtle isn't cheap, but FM is pretty brutal.  The appeal of Le Diplomate eludes me - though I admit to being irrationally bother by the fake nicotine stains on the ceiling (and their frites were meh on my two visits).

PS: Chez Billy is a thought, too. Quite the charming spot.

Welcome to post-recession Washington, DC. :)

Fiola Mare is brutal, but you can make it less brutal by ordering small plates, and the small plates can be wonderful. I can't justify the prices; I'm merely saying that it's possible to eat here without taking out a second mortgage if you're somewhat creative.

The outdoor seating along the canal at Grill Room is beautiful and perfect for two people. If I remember right, though, the tables only really fit two, so it might not be good if you have a larger group.

Monmartre isn't exactly new, but Brian Wilson helming the kitchen is new-ish.

Iron Gate?  It's not completely new but it has an outdoor area.

I've never found the food to live up to the setting there.

Maybe save that for date night.

Submitting Thally, Garrison, Chez Billie Sud to the team.
