DanCole42
For the past several years I've participated in Reddit's Secret Santa. For those who are unfamiliar, it's one of the largest gift exchange programs in the world... connecting gift givers from across the globe. Part of the fun is cyberstalking your match to try and find the perfect gift. One of the things my giftee is into is: "local candy that we don't get in Sweden." My problem is that I'm not super knowledgeable about candy. I have a salt-tooth where most people have a sweet tooth. What kind of wacky, American, super-tasty candy could I get him that he might not otherwise have access to (being in Sweden)? Any suggestions? PollyG
All of the big brands travel to Europe. Maple sugar candy (World Market stocks some) is a good bet. There are also some Tabasco flavored chocolates that they stock.

Destruya
You might also consider something like PayDays for something a bit easier to get your hands on (plus they'll likely travel better than anything chocolate-covered). Any candies with excessive amounts of peanuts (hazelnuts generally take their place in candies) in them tend to carry a heavy premium in Europe because all peanuts need to be imported. Hopefully he's not allergic. >.> Another 'gag' suggestion: sugary American cereals (with or without marshmallows), which would practically be considered 'candy' over there. Pretty sure if you sent him a box of Lucky Charms or Cinnamon Toast Crunch it'd suffice. http://www.thestreet.com/story/12854256/1/10-of-the-most-unhealthy-cereals-in-america.html
Pat
What about salt water taffy? Kilwins in Old Town carries it.

DaveO
They will love you forever if you send them something from Artisan Confections right in this area in Arlington and Fairfax. The problem with giving chocolates from Artisan Confections to someone in Sweden is that you won't get to taste them!!!!!!!!!
Destruya
I talked to a Swede I know and she said that they're kind of fond of sour/salted candy over there (mention of 'salted liquorice' came up ), and excessively-sugary stuff might not exactly be in their usual taste profile. When I mentioned Reese's Pieces she said 'never heard of them,' so that could be another 'easy' idea. Obviously it's possible that your guy is an exception and might really like something super-sweet. But 'candy' is a nebulous concept - it means different things to different people. I also found this link as to offer examples of what his 'local' stuff might be: http://www.scandinavianstuff.com/en/swedish-sweets-candy/ And: http://lostinstockholm.com/2011/11/07/an-introduction-to-swedish-candies-part-i/ and http://lostinstockholm.com/2010/04/15/lordags-godis-the-swedish-candy-obsession/
