I don't know why tonite was the first time I tried Jetties since I drive by it ALL the time, but I had a great sandwich there. I ordered a "Surfside" which consisted of sourdough bread, grainy mustard, avocado, turkey, bacon and havarti. It was really really good. The sourdough was nice and soft, yet still hearty. The avocado lent a nice creaminess and the turkey was excellent. Thick-sliced, tasted like Thanksgiving, but better. All-in-all a very good sandwich.

Anyone else had good experiences there and what do you usually order?

Like the above poster (from way back in 2007 ) I've been driving by this small sandwich shop in the Pallisades for quite some time. I was in last weekend with the significant other and I have to say, we had two of the best sandwiches that I've had since I moved to DC (5 years).

-Tried the Smith Point (roast beef with horseradish mayo, red onions, havarti, on pumpernickel). Had a great bite due to quite a bit of horseradish combined with the red onions. The bread was nice and soft but provided a great base for a very hearty portion. She had the Surf Side (of which I stole a few bites) which was also delicious, the uber-soft sour dough went perfectly with the small bites of bacon and smooth avacado spread. Combined with the course ground mustard and turkey, it was another home run.

I noticed they make shakes/ice cream etc (apparently they are spinning of a new place called "Something Sweet" across from 2 Amys...but was at 2 Amy's about a week ago and couldn't place which spot it was going up in) but was too full from my sandwich to indulge.

I have a love/hate relationship with Jetties. We used to stop by every weekend after long runs along the canal, and the sandwiches were always great. I like the portobello mushroom/pesto sandwich (I can't remember the name), and one of my friends likes the soups. The hate part is, in winter, they have these swinging doors that won't stay closed and you freeze to death if you want to sit for a minute at a table and eat your sandwich with friends. So thumbs up during warm weather or for take out, avoid during cold weather.

It looks like there is a new place going in next to BGR Joint. It used to be a Thai gifts shop which closed last year. I forget the name, something like 'Noshes' or similar.

I thought that was going to be Jetties.

If they do indeed make good sandwiches, that'll be great. There are some delis and sandwich shops in the Woodmont triangle-ish area, but none of the places have been earth-shatteringly good....

I got a Nobadeer to go today: sourdough, cranberry sauce, fresh roasted turkey, stuffing, mayo. It was a little bread-heavy; I ended up removing the slice of bread that had the mayo & ate it open-faced. What a righteous scarf.

A $9.50 lunch -- sammich only, no drink -- is too pricey to consider more than once a month. But it's great to have Jetties in a 'hood with too few decent options.

They might have decided to stick with the Jettie's name for the location across from 2 Amy's b/c my wife told me she got a cupcake from that location and called it Jetties. The web site also calls it a Jetties location: 3708 Macomb St NW Washington, DC 20007. Not positive though.

I look forward to trying the Bethesda location.

The Roasted Turkey was nice and moist, the avacado spread had great flavor. Nice size meat sandwich, but yes as Heather said a little pricey. If they keep up the quality this will be a very good lunch option.

Really have grown quite fond of Jetties. The main location is a summer favorite, but I hadn't tried the Express (on Macomb) until recently. Glad to find that Express has the same consistently good sandwiches and really terrific friendly service. I just wish they'd expand over to my side of the park... until then worth the H4 trip.

_{I have to say that while I was never a fan of the Gtown location, I have been to the Bethesda one several times. Their Quidnet ( italian hoagie) is IMHO one of the best sandwiches in the area....shaming Taylors and rivaled only by my other favorite The Italian Store.}

I see Taylor is labeled as a Deli in the Dining Guide [not sure I really understand the distinction], and Taylor's quality has dropped significantly in the past few years, but they still make a mean sandwich.

Haven't been to Jettie's in quite a while... In addition to great sandwiches, they used to make a righteous, wicked-yummy NE clam chowder. Still the case, anyone know?

I went to Jettie's for the first time today (downtown location). My sandwich (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo, sourdough) was great. They could have done a better job constructing the sandwich (don't load everything into the middle of he bread) and I hate that they made me fill out an order form when I literally was just ordering a sandwich, but the sandwich made up for it.

Jettie's is added to the long list of solid sandwich places within a block or two of my office - Taylor, Bub and Pop's, TakEatEasy, DC PoBoy. It is almost an embarrassment of riches.

I'm with you that Taylor Gourmet isn't a deli to me, and having been to both Taylor Gourmet and Jetties in Bethesda in the last week, I'd say they should be judged in the same category, though Jetties has entrees and soups that make it (to me) more of a deli than Taylor Gourmet. Except for the much talked about roll change, the Bethesda Taylor Gourmet has been pretty consistent, but my experiences are limited b/c I get the same thing every time: 12" Girard with broccoli raabe added. Maybe the other items have been less consistent. As for Jetties, it's one of our favorite family places to go b/c the adult sandwiches are generally excellent and our two kids under 4 years old can amply share one $5.95 kids' meal usually with a little leftover. The kids' meals also include fruit and vegetables so I feel much less guilty than the usual types of meals the kids can get when eating out. Sometimes I've seen a Jetties sign saying Kids Eat for Free with the purchase of an adult meal but I've never gone at a time when it's been advertised. The sandwiches that I usually get are the Nobadeer and the Pocomo, which may be meatless but is probably as rich in calories as the Nobadeer. I enjoy both places for what they are: small sandwich chains with justifiably higher prices than their peers because their ingredients tend to be far superior.

Not to mention that at their Palisades location, there *are* no other places in the area. I agree with the Taylor comparison - this place isn't great, but it's okay, and the tables outside are really pleasant.

And they're making money hand-over-fist.

I think their prices are too high. Their salads are fine and fit the bill when I am trying to get something light for lunchtime carryout, though. The sandwich I had once was good, but I can get a very good sandwich with a slightly longer walk down the street at Cafe Express that is cheaper, and then walk up to the triangle and sit outside in the sun if I want, too.

Jetties is becoming one of those places that frustrates me but for some reason I keep going back.  I have fond memories of trekking into town to their Foxhall location years ago and I was thrilled when they opened a Bethesda shop.  The roast turkey in particular i feel has dropped in quality.  What was once moist and full of flavor has become dry with a leathery exterior...but still we find ourselves there whenever we want something more casual but don't want burgers/pizza/burritos.

While I am venting, I don't understand why they cannot produce an itemized receipt.  If you are going to charge per item when people build their own sandwiches or salads, how hard is it to have your register print out the receipt showing how my two sandwiches ended up costing $22?

I keep getting Long Pond salads here, but I need to try their sandwiches. My issue is I usually hit up Jetties when I know I am veg-deficient, hence all of the salad.

The Steps Beach, Great Point, Smith Point and Surfside all look good.
