Online Bargains

Methinks we could use a thread for those occasional online bargains that show up from time to time, especially with gift-giving season fast approaching. Even if my first post is a nonstarter

Dang...missed it by that much. wine.woot.com had 3 lb wheels of Point Reyes blue for $35 shipped. Alas, now sold out.

What have you run across lately?

I subscribe to Radcru.com, which sends out daily emails on weekdays with wine bargains. Sometime it's just overstock and sometimes it's a really good deal, for example 3 bottles for $42 from Three Families Winery:

2003 Three Families Winery Cabernet Sauvignon

2004 Three Families Winery Merlot

2006 Three Families Winery Chardonnay

And they all arrived in DC at the same time

Linens 'n Things online is closing out a Char-Broil gas grill with side burner for half-price with coupon code ($199 regularly $399, choose in-store pickup to avoid shipping)...info here. Direct link here, but it looks like you need to combine the 20% off by signing up for their e-mail list. I can't vouch for the grill itself; just passing along the deal info.

Amazon has a 7qt Lodge enamel dutch oven for $99. Heavy, metal handles/knob.

Damn! I just bought one on Amazon a week ago for $50+ more

Shipping is free too. I picked the Super Saver Shipping and mine showed up in 2 days anyway.

Very good bargain.

how do you like the lodge enamel?

Coleman's Military Surplus currently has a butcher's chainmail glove on sale for $35. The description is rather skimpy and there's no indication of condition, although Coleman's is usually good about identifying used items as such. They're made by well-regarded German maker Niroflex, and the price is about half of what a generic stainless mesh glove usually goes for. If the illustration is accurate, these are size small.

This has nothing to do with food, so I hope Don will indulge me for a day. Online discount site Groupon is offering half-priced individual memberships ($25 instead of $50) to the Walters Art Museum, in Baltimore. One of my favorite small museums, The Walters has unusually good East Asian and pre-Colombian sections (in the adjacent Hackerman wing, only open on weekends), and is absolutely phenomenal when it comes to medieval manuscripts. There's a "conservation window" upstairs where you can observe and talk with a manuscript conservator at work. The art collection itself is eclectic classical.

Benefactors have arranged for general admission to The Walters to be free these days, but we've found it useful that their reciprocal membership list includes the Corcoran Gallery and Phillips Collection.

Chefs Catalog (no affiliation etc.) is selling the Magimix 5150 food processor for $300. There is also a coupon (CW4PF4204) you can find on the interweb for another $25 off.

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking at food processors to replace my 22 year-old Cuisinart (which is losing some plastic bits) and went with this. That coupon expired on June 17, but I put that number in the coupon box today and it was accepted anyway. So, with free shipping and no sales tax, I was able to get this machine for $275. Thus ends the months-long wavering between the new Cuisinart and Kitchen Aid FPs.

The latest online Costco.com deal (thru 12/19 "while supplies last") is the Blendtec Connoisseur with both Wildside and Fourside jars for $400 delivered. Sales tax in MD and VA, even though it's not in the brick-and-mortar locations (Gburg is currently running a Vitamix deal instead).

http://www.costco.com/.product.11738721.html

This is Blendtec's high-end version which can be reconfigured for permanent installation into a countertop. Shown as out of stock on Blendtec's website at $649 MSRP (http://www.blendtec.com/products/total_blender_professional_series). The Wildside jar topped a side-by-side comparison of high end blenders last year.

Guess I'll be running another branch circuit to the kitchen this winter.

Just noticed that WMF Americas has their 8.5 quart Perfect Pro pressure cooker on sale for $129 (MSRP $325), with free ground shipping.  This may or may not have to do with the fact that their warehouse sale is going on now through Saturday in North Carolina.

This is basically their Ultra Pro model (not sold in the US) minus the timer; all controls are in the end of the handle, as distant as physically possible from the central pressure release vent.  Made in Germany, 18/10 stainless with laminated base (internal aluminum and induction-compatible magnetic layers).  Theoretically this line is positioned above their Perfect Plus line, but only the 8.5 qt size is on sale, which makes it unclear if they're just moving excess inventory or closing items out.

FWIW (and despite appearances, no, I'm not obsessed with pressure cookers), Woot has a today-only deal [ETA 4/20: no longer available] on Fissler Vitaquick pressure cookers: the 8L size is $150 plus $5 shipping.  The 10L size is $10 more.  Includes perforated inset and wire stand for same.  Note that this is Fissler's tapered wall line, supposedly to make them nestable for storage, but as a consequence they offer less base area for browning.

Amazon has the Cuisinart Custom 14 food processor (DFP-14BCNY) in the brushed stainless finish for $156.  It's about $200 everywhere else.  This is the large (14 cup) version of Cuisinart's traditional paddle-switch layout, and perennial winner of thesweethome's food processor comparo (caveat the enormous Breville Sous-Chef, which does everything but costs more than twice as much).
