subpurrb
I am taking my husband to VA Beach for his 50th birthday. We also decided to go there for this visit because it is on our "wish list" of possible retirement places in the future. I've read the suggestions for good dining in the Va Beach/Norfolk area and wondered if the same choices hold true for the winter months. Or if there is an especially delicious place that would be extra special for his birthday dinner? Thanks...(we are going at the end of Feb 2008). Demetrius
I highly suggest that you consider Todd Jurich's Bistro in Norfolk, Virginia. It is only a fifteen to twenty minute drive from the oceanfront. http://www.toddjurichsbistro.com/

Demetrius
One Fish, Two Fish is also a great restaurant, with a beautiful open kitchen in the middle. If you do choose this restaurant, ask to be seated at a table overlooking the water.
padow
There's an Italian restaurant called the Boot that's amazing. The chef, Brendan Vesey, is a fan of slow food and buys most of his produce and meats from local farmers. I just checked out the restaurant online and it looks like they have bands at night, but I don't think that starts until later. I've been there once and the restaurant is pretty and not too casual and the food was to die for!!! It's in the trendy Ghent neighborhood of Norfolk which is pretty close to VA Beach. Lydia R
I've also been getting searching for recommendations and was referred to Steinhilber's. A Virginia Beach native noted there's a fireplace for cozy winter dining. In fairer weather the outdoor patio sounds inviting. It been family owned for 65 years and backs up to the Lynnhaven River. They serve dinner Monday through Saturday and are closed on Sunday. 653 Thalia Road ~ Virginia Beach 757-340-1156 If anyone's been there recently, please post comments here or on the Norfolk/VABeach thread. Steinhilber's is currently on my short list.
cf75
As a native, I highly recommend/second the nod for Steinhilber's. Quintessential family restaurant, but in the middle of the Thalia Acres neighborhood, so mapquest ahead of time. OneFish TwoFish is a fantastic recommendation. Norfolk is experiencing a culinary boom - but it's a hike from the Oceanfront (15-20 minutes). Should you decide to head that way, Todd Jurich's Bistro or better yet the Vintage Kitchen are brilliant choices.
