Vive le Lundi!
Wine Tastings on the First Monday of Each Month - $28 - Café Dupont
Chef Silvan Kramer of Café Dupont may be Swiss, but his first steps in the kitchen at the five- star Lausanne Palace in Lausanne, Switzerland taught him to love his wine as much as any Frenchman.
Beginning in July, he will offer a monthly wine tasting to introduce that month’s wine specials: bottles he has personally selected, which will be available throughout the month -- by the bottle [all under $40] or by the glass [$8-10] -- at Café Dupont and Bar Dupont.
Café Dupont’s Wine Tastings will take place on the first Monday of the month, from 5:30 to 6:30pm in the convivial gathering spot just inside the restaurant’s entrance. Limited to 25 people, the events will consist of a progression of four half-glasses [2.5 ounces] paired with small, tapas-style plates: not only a treat for the palate, but a bargain at $28 [excluding tax and gratuity.] During the tasting, Chef Silvan will helpfully disclose his reasoning behind each food pairing, and Michael Mongoluzzo of Washington Wholesales will share his expertise on each of the featured vintages.
The first of the series on Monday, July 2, 2012 kicks things off with a “Pop!” as guests enjoy a range of sparkling wine varietals from Chandon Vineyard in California: Chandon Chardonnay paired with Cured Hudson Valley Foie Gras, Toasted Brioche, and Rhubarb Chutney; Chandon Pinot Noir paired with a Beef and Lamb Kabob with Lavender and Mint Yogurt; Chandon Pinot Meunière paired with a Parmesan Polenta Fritter, Kalamata Olive Tapenade, Micro Basil, and Tomato Chips; and Domaine Chandon Brut with Hamachi Sashmi, Ginger Scallion Purée and a Rice Crisp.
Monday August 6 treats guests to a taste of Burgundy with featured wines Auvigue Moulin St Veran; Chavy Puligny; Matrot Meursault; and Vocoret Chablis.
On Monday September 3, it’s all about Worldly Whites: Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon from Australia; Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand; Provenance Sauvignon Blanc out of California; and the fine Argentinian Terrazas Torrontes.
Monday October 1 will offer the chance to explore the wines of Newton Vineyard of St. Helena, California: Red Label - Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon; Unfiltered- Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon; and Puzzle- Bordeaux style blend
