  1. I see that Sehkraft appears to be finally making progress. They've got the giant fermenters in place and I see tables and chairs. Any word on when this place will open? An Arlnow article said they were aiming for late August, which was obviously wrong. (In case folks here aren't aware of the place of which I speak, it's a sister restaurant to Westover Market Beer Garden.)
  2. Sounds like the owners are restaurant industry newbies. I'll be interested to see how this places fares, as that space in Clarendon seems to be cursed. I gotta say though, the prices on the menu are alarmingly high. I guess that's what you need to charge to make rent there. $19 for fish and chips!!! Wowser.
  3. When I was complaining about the lack of good Italian food in Arlington recently, this doesn't sound like the answer I was hoping for. From the owners of A-Town and Don Tito comes, Barley Mac, an "Italian American" fusion tavern with a beer and bourbon beverage program. . . "A-Town Owners To Open Rosslyn Restaurant" on ARLnow.com
  4. "Sushi Chain Coming to Clarendon?" by Ethan Rothstein on arlnow.com I've been dying for a great sushi place in Arlington, especially Clarendon. I suspect this is not it. But I'm open to being wrong if anyone knows the brand!
  5. Having heard about the, er, origins of the joint when news got out that it was coming to town, I was immediately skeptical. And then seeing the truly brilliant WaPo review, my worst suspicions were confirmed. So despite walking by the place easily 200 times, I never dared to go in. But while we're on the topic of bad Italian, what are follks' go-to Italian restaurants in NoVA? I've had trouble finding chill but excellent Italian food in the area. So being Italian myself, I tend to just make my own. But I'd love a good, easy, reasonably priced spot to frequent. (Sorry if this question belongs in a different forum, still trying to figure out how this all works.)
  6. Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Dan. I live in Arlington, VA in the Clarendon area. Been in the area for 6+ years now (shesh!) and lived in Manhattan for 6 years before that. I've enjoyed both restaurant scenes a lot, and I also spend a lot of time cooking/baking my own food. I've even got a fun cooking/baking blog, which I haven't updated lately, since my wife and I just had a daughter in December and it's been.... busy. (If you're REALLY interested, it's at http://beardedbakerman.com/, it's really just for me and my friends -- not trying to commercial appeal or anything like that. I just enjoy making food! Hopefully I can get back to it before long.) Also pretty into wines and craft beer. I've lurked here from time to time, reading news about DC/NoVA restaurants. I'm sure I'll do so more regularly now that I've joined and add comment from time-to-time. Dan
  7. New here but have been into the NoVA food scene for a while -- just curious if anyone has heard what's replacing La Tagliatella in Clarendon. A commenter over at ArlNow claims that a huge (500+ restaurant) chain has swooped in to take over the space. Anyone have any insider information? Can't be any worse, I hope!
