I watched this (amateur-ish) Top 10-Ever listicle of Stanley Kubrick films, and came to the following conclusion, with which some may disagree: Of the Top 10, exactly 3 were on my "Best Ever" list: "Dr. Strangelove," (1964) "2001," (1968), and "A Clockwork Orange" (1971). The others - all of them - were on my "Really Good" list, but not my "Best Ever" list (I haven't seen "Lolita" (1962) or "Barry Lyndon" (1975)). What do others think? (The list itself is unimportant, and nothing more than a starting point for this thread.)

For the younger folk out there, Rosemary Clooney was George Clooney's aunt. She had a remarkably warm and graceful way of singing. She fell out of sight in the 1960s because of some personal problems, but came back strong in the 1980s with some wonderful American-songbook type records. Here (in 1984) she sings one of Irving Berlin's greatest songs, "What'll I Do?". I tormented myself with this song after a particularly painful break-up, but now it's just an old, sweet friend. -
As my tribute to "Fats" Domino: my favorite song by him, not quite as popular as some of his biggest hits, "I'm Gonna Be a Wheel Someday":

A few years ago, bored on a long plane trip, I chose Funny Face from the list of available movies. Never much of an Audrey Hepburn fan, I didn't make it too far before fast-forwarding. And then I caught the tail-end of Audrey singing "How Long Has This Been Going On?", one of my American songbook favorites. Somehow I'd made it all these years without realizing where the song came from (though I knew it was written by the Gershwins). This song has been recorded by almost everyone. Here are a few of my favorites: Lonette McKee Ella Fitzgerald recorded it many times; this is one of the simpler versions, no syrupy strings to sully her voice Carmen McRae Sarah Vaughn start listening at about 1'30" - really interesting upbeat arrangement with Latin rhythms and a bluesy touch Julie London with sultry electric guitar and of course, Audrey Hepburn's version in the movie (included for reference)
