  1. There's a Coming Soon sign at this building in Clarendon (near the corner of Wilson and Washington Blvd). The website says coming in early 2007 though, so I guess it's still a ways off from opening. Anyone know anything about this place?
  2. Went here to Fork & Wrench in February with friends that are getting married in June (we go next week to Pittsburgh to attend it! And, uh, to hit up Morcilla) as they live in Baltimore and we want to continue our dalliance with exploring Baltimore over time. Parking is pretty tricky in the evenings so we took the valet option, which was pretty reasonable. The space is nice with some activity down on the street level main floor, but we were seated upstairs with ample seating (and also where the kitchen is). Had a good round of cocktails, followed by a delicious meal. The beef tartare was goos, as was the octopus and a lamb loin 'roll' was very good. Service was good, though when we were done it took a little time to get the check. All in all a very solid and delicious place to have a nice meal. I will be back.
  3. In NYC over the weekend for a birthday getaway. Was able to spend several hours getting acquainted with The Dutch, the new-ish spot from Andrew Carmellini in SoHo. Unfortunately didn't ever make it over to a proper table as I was using the place as a meetup for folks. But got to try several of their items via the bar. Definitely get the fried oyster mini sandwiches (order several), the hot fried chicken (semi-famous in his cookbook), and anything they're recommending from the raw bar. The real standout, though, is the service. Top notch at every station -- the killer bartenders somehow made dealing with the Friday evening post-HH rush seem effortless and kudos to the beverage director Brynn who took care of us with a little extra. I'd recommend going for lunch or early in the evening during nice weather when the sun is still out and occupying the counter seating alongside the open windows.
  4. Website We had graduation dinner at Acacia on Saturday night. I like the new location, it is much more modern, open and light. We had a sauvignon blanc from Glen Manor that was very good, very light and crisp, but in a good way. I started with softshells and slaw with pickled onion and a curry vinagrette, which wasn't as bold as I thought it would be, but it was good, a little unwieldy to eat, but good. For my main I had the rockfish with:cipollini puree, ramps, local mushrooms, chayote squash, sunchoke, roasted apples, lingonberry sauce which sounds odd, but was actually really good. I liked it. Hubby had the hanger steak which he liked, as well. I also had bites of the crabcakes which were good- even by my own Annapolis standards which says a lot. The french press coffee they serve is good. I didn't have dessert, hubby had the orange waffle, I don't think he loved it. Nice selection of after dinner drinks, too.
