As noted elsewhere Rosslyn is a wasteland for dining. Along with another thread about a hidden better higher value lunch alternative there is Ahra Cafe located at 1100 Wilson Boulevard in the Twin Towers Building with Channel 8 on the ground level off the lobby. Ahra is only open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays and has no outdoor signage. Their breakfasts and lunches are hearty and offer good value for the price. Ahra's specialties are slow roasted turkey, ham, roast beef and brisket sandwiches. They are hearty, large, and accompanied by a wide variety of extras. They offer great value for the price and a cut above the world of chains that proliferate in that wasteland. -
I'm going to the Four Seasons for dinner on Thursday and have never really heard anything about it. Thoughts? Is there something I should watch out for? -
I've seen a couple of mentions of Jack's Place (222 N Lee St, Alexandria in Old Town) on here, but I think it deserves it's own thread. If I'm wrong, feel free to fold it back in with one of the others. I highly recommend Jack's Place for breakfast. This local-centric diner serves some really great fare. The owner is a salt-of-the-earth sort of guy who is particularly fond of the Bronco's during the Elway heyday. I've read that outsiders can get a bit of grief from Jack and his crew, but I didn't find that to be the case during my visit. When I first arrived and sat down at the counter, a woman came in shortly afterwards and gave me a slightly uncomfortable (though not unfriendly) look. "Oh, is this your seat," she sheepishly admitted that it was, so I happily relinquished it. That's how local this spot is. Grab a paper menu from the counter when you arrive if you aren't familiar with the offerings. I ordered a "breakfast usual" sandwich, which had bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese and egg (i went for over-medium). I got it on Italian bread. It may have been the best breakfast sandwich I've ever eaten, and at $6, it was a bargain. I was pretty hungry, so that could have factored into my memory, though. I just started a new job in Georgetown and am in the process of scoping out lunch places. One of my colleagues recommended Cafe Tu-o-Tu Express near the Key Bridge, so I checked it out. It and its sibling, Cafe Tu-o-Tu on the other end of Georgetown, offer delicious sandwiches and some interesting salads (boconccini, strawberry/spinach/goat cheese, Nicoise). I had a panini combo (half panini and one of the daily salads, $8.25) with the chicken caprese melt and the mango salad. The panini was nice and crusty, although I would have liked more and better tomatoes, but I really enjoyed the salad -- baby arugula topped with a generous amount of fresh and dried sliced mango, dried cranberries, shaved Parmesan, and a small disk of goat cheese, served with a side of balsamic vinaigrette. I was definitely pleased with what I got for my eight bucks, and will likely visit again. Website: http://www.cafetuotu.com/
