I have been to SF since 1998. What I remember most was how welcoming they were to a single diner. Both the restaurants and the people dining around me. Other guests kept trying to share wine with me. (And not other solo diners so I don't think I was being hit on...) Jennifer

Hubby is going to be away on business Saturday and Sunday night. We have NOTHING in the fridge, and I don't see much point in getting groceries until he comes back. I haven't been to many new and talked about restaurants in DC for a while- between work, chairing my non-profit group, etc, we have been eating out just to have food, not to dine, or eating out with other people who have driven the location. I like eating at bars, and so I see this as a good opportunity to squeak in as a single to a bar or restaurant that otherwise is tough to get into or that Hubby might not love. So what are your favorite or favorite new(ish) spots in DC that I could likely find a spot at a bar and eat some good food? Oh, and does Mirabelle have a bar?

I have an unexpected trip to NYC next Monday and don't follow the dining scene there. I would love a recommendation for a solo meal (preferably at the bar- and even better if I can make a reservation) in midtown-ish, but I can cab to someplace that fits the bill. I'm looking for something not too loud. Had a great solo meal last month in Boston at Craigie on Main (thanks to Silentbob for the recommendation). Thanks.

I'll be back in DC for a conference in early October (I moved to W. Africa back in June). I'll be staying in Foggy Bottom and I'm looking for a couple of recommendations for restaurants where I can comfortably dine solo, preferably at a bar, Kindle in hand. Is this possible at Kinship? My last stint in DC was with two young ones, so I'm completely out of the loop on the wider restaurant scene. I'd love to say "price no object" but realistically I can only afford a couple splurges. Metro accessibility definitely a plus. Thanks! K
