  1. I've been so busy with other things that I've neglected any planning for an upcoming trip, so I need some ideas. Here's the scenario: Mr. P will be in SF for two weeks for work, and will probably be hanging out with co-workers most evenings. I'm flying out to join him on Wednesday and staying for the weekend. So, I need solo dinner options for Wednesday and Thursday, and "date night" options for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We're staying close to the Ferry Terminal building, but don't mind taking public transport to just about anywhere. Here's the important thing: l want low-key places. I'm not going to bring any fancy clothes and these days I really don't like formal dining. If my clone was coming to DC I'd tell her to go to Tail Up Goat and Himitsu. I'll consider any cuisine. Many thanks.
  2. 8 friends want to get together for dinner in a couple of weeks. Some from NW DC, some in Silver Spring. Looking for a place with good, moderately priced food, preferably in NW, Bethesda, SS, good ambiance where we can hang out for a while. Please save us from ending up at Maggiano's! On first pass I thought of Buck's but I am sure there are other great options I am forgetting.
  3. If I can call on the help of the DR community twice in one month-- Husband's best friend coming into town next month and would be great for them to celebrate their big birthdays (40) with a nice dinner. Husband's friend is old-school Brooklyn, hates hipsters, nothing frou-frou, want something authentic. They loved Rays the Steaks, back in the day, but looking for something else and also want to be able to linger a bit. Good beers. Ideas include: Mintwood Place? Le Diplomate (might be too loud)? Thanks.
  4. My daughter just graduated from college and is moving to DC July 1 to start her new job, and I'll be spending a couple of days down there helping her move and celebrating the 4th. I don't get to DC that often though I live just north in Frederick, MD. so I'm looking for some dining options. Her new apartment is near the Convention Center, but we will be touring around DC with the rest of the tourists on the 4th. She loves to cook and eat good food - but she's not a fine diner (nor am I). Foams, foie gras, etc. are not up her alley. ALso, please note that Mom (that's me) will be footing the bill for the 15 meals to come. So.... Komi it ain't! What would be some good casual not too expensive places that we might consider for lunch and dinner? FWIW, we went to Rasika yesterday and LOVED it! Thanks!
  5. Popular Georgetown gourmet retailer needs to add a quality cheese/charcuteriemonger to its team. Great product line thats ever evolving. Low stress, easy hours, employee discounts. Serious inquiries only. Email me at john.pearson@deandeluca.com
  6. I need to organize a dinner for about 7 to 8 people who are mostly staying at the Omni Shoreham or Marriott Woodley Park for a conference. This is a reunion of old grad school friends. I'd like to impress with the food, but I'm also looking for a place where we can hear each other and have a good conversation. District Kitchen seems like it may not be as good as it used to be with the departure of Drew Trautmann. There hasn't been a posting here about New Heights in a year and a half. Is it still good? We certainly aren't limited to places within walking distance, but I'd like to make transportation easy and to find a place relatively close by. I was contemplating Ripple, but not sure it would be good for that large a group (?). Dang I wish Palena was still there. Where should we go?
