  1. Quickway is a fast food habachi place near 7-corners in the Wilston Center in Falls Church. I've been curious about it since it opened and since I have no running water, I thought I'd stop in. The positives: 1. The bathroom was clean, the water running, and the signage amusing. 2. The salmon was so juicy, yet fully cooked that I suspected it must be injected with some sort of salt solution (this is a complement). 3. The Yum-yum sauce lives up to its name but then again, isn't mayo always good? My order: Salmon bento box which consisted of salmon, noodles, "california roll", and 4 deep fried things (2 mini pot stickers, 2 mini eggrolls). The negatives: 1. The food had no flavor. How hard is it to add a little soy or marin? 2. The food was greasy. Really, really oily yet had no flavor. How hard is it to add a little sesame oil? 3. Deep fried pot stickers?WTF. Ok, I get this one but again, see negative #1. 4. I had to ask for soy sauce. I was given yum-yum sauce. This might not be a negative for all I realize. 5. And finally, the coke was on the edge of flat.
  2. I went Matasuke last night for dinner with a group of friends, specifically to try their hibachi. I found the experience to be kind of meh. My whole group ordered hibachi, everyone's dish was in the 23-25 dollar range and came with soup, salad and shrimp appetizer but the fried rice was an extra 2.50. To me this felt pretty expensive for the quality of food served to us. The miso soup was heavily salty. The salad greens were wilted and limp and drowning in dressing. The brighter side the fried rice was pretty decent, as was the vegetables. The steak was cooked to perfection but my chicken was a bit on the tough side. I suppose part of the 22+ entrees goes towards the hibachi chef who was sufficiently entertaining (he did a neat trick where he flipped an egg up in the air and caught it on a the side edge of his spatula) All in all I felt that the whole thing was kind of overpriced. The service wasn't very good and they were trying to rush us all night long. I had not had hibachi in 8 years so I probably won't go back for it for another 8 or so. A coworker of mine swears by their sushi though so it might be worth others to check out that. Address: 320 23rd St S, Arlington, VA
  3. I tried the new-ish sushi and Japanese steakhouse in the old chili's spot on Rt 1 and cherry. Sushi was all fine to very good--better than maintenance sushi but not Sushi Sono. Place was basically empty. Pretty questionable starting the same concept that failed there before them, in a shopping center that is annoying to access. But I hope they survive.
  4. What's the best hibachi between Dupont Circle and Ballston? Is it still Matsutake in Ballston proper?
  5. Thirded. I've been here several times over the years, most recently last week. The fish is a very slight step down from Kotobuki, but still pretty good. Toro was not available, but they did have chu-toro. I also like the spider roll, which can be inconsistent in quality though (some rolls have more crab meat than others). The only reason why we don't come here more often is that the Tysons Galleria is a short walk from our office next door. Very convenient for business lunches. But after yet another mediocre meal at the mall -- it's never a good sign when your "best" options are Lebanese Taverna and The Daily Grill, and the other choices are Legal Seafood, Maggiano's, P.F. Chang, and The Cheesecake Factory -- I will not hesitate to make the 5-minute drive here (or to Shamshiry).
