We are going to be remodeling our kitchen within the next year or so and after doing two previous kitchens, I find that the only essential items are a good stove and a second oven. Secondary to the stove is a freezer big enough to hold a sheet pan, counter space, and an icemaker. All the rest, cabinets, countertops, etc. is window dressing. So I'd like to hear from dr.com members...Have you ever redone you kitchen and what feature was most important to you? What did you do that in retrospect was a waste of money? We're considering one of the Aga duel fuel ranges. The six-four is the model I'm looking at. (In purple.) Has anyone owned one or used one? This is not the radiant heat kind - it's too hot here.

Need an outside door fixed so it will lock; it either needs to be adjusted slightly (ie. the top hinge) in order to straighten it out or some tinkering with the holes for the handle and lock will be needed. Southern Fairfax County.

I've had a drain that has been giving me problems on and off for years. Finally, toward the end of last year I managed to clog it completely. I tried bleach, boiling water, other chemicals, and a gadget called a Drain King (a rubber bladder that expands and forces water down the train), all to no avail. I've had bad luck with plumbers working on it before. This time we got a good one. I found Willy Banks and his company, Cobra Sewer and Drain Cleaning Services, through Washington Consumer Checkbook. He was able to come out the next day and got the drain running well with his power snake. He was thorough, making sure that his work hadn't clogged other drains (it had but was quickly cleared), and that the snake hadn't broken the pipe and caused a leak (it hadn't). Snaking a drain was $185. Considering what I've paid before for unsuccessful efforts, I'm OK with that. He and his son are the company, and do full-line plumbing work. I'd use them again. When I got home from work last night, I found that my basement was starting to flood and had about an inch of water on the floor, soaking the carpeting and starting to creep up the baseboards. Google pointed me in the direction of Flood Doctor. I called them around 10 PM and talked to Frank. He was extremely helpful and efficient during the call and assured me that he would have somebody out to the house around 2 AM. I was nicely surprised when Frank himself showed up with two other guys at 11:15. They went about their business very quickly, cleaning up the water, ripping up the carpet, disposing of the ruined padding and setting out dehumidifiers and floor blowers. I was assured that they'd be back in 4 days to collect the equipment, replace the padding, lay the carpet back down and sanitize/steam clean the entire basement. We knocked out the insurance paperwork and they were out the door around midnight. Total pros. I have known Bernie Hoffman for about seven years now. He has been in the building trade for many years and has worked on everything from doghouses to being general foreman for 20-story+ office buildings and everything in between, so he knows what actually works and what is builder BS and he doesn't make empty promises. Benrie has taken his own tiny Arlington rambler and made it into a 2-story Dutch Colonial. I've seen him take a tiny old Arlington condo kitchen (if there were 2 people in there, you couldn't open the refrigerator door) and fit it out with so much usuable storage it would make a yachtsman proud. He just finished replacing all my doors and windows and all I needed to do was hand him the keys and leave the coffeemaker set up for him to turn on when he got to work. If he needs a helping hand, he has Frederico come along, who has worked on jobs with him for 15 or more years. And if the owner doesn't object, Katy his loveable black lab will come along to oversee all efforts as well. My neighbors all came by while he was working and want him to work on projects at their houses because they have had an opportunity to see the care and quality and dedication to doing the job right that Bernie brings to his work.
