  1. I will say that the falafel from Amsterdam simply does not compare to the one at Max's. I found it to be extremely dense and moist, rather than the amazingly light, crisp texture of the ones at Max's. You can choose from white or wheat pita, and the guy filling the pitas that night was a little impatient and flustered despite the fact that it wasn't really that busy. It was a little weird. Chill out man! I think that the selection of toppings at Amsterdam is a bit more varied and a little bit better. Every time I go to Max's they're out of one that I like (though I guess that shows its popularity). The fries at Amsterdam are okay, nothing to write home about. They have "Dutch mayo" which is too sweet for my fries and is a bit closer to salad cream. Nonetheless, today I find myself craving the delicious toppings from Amsterdam.
  2. I've been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Dupont Circle Fractured Prune. The store was expected to open in August 2006, and I was wondering what was happening. I found on the MetroPrune website that they're now expecting to open in late October. And there's a Free Donut Night a-coming! Rockville Town Square is also getting one, as is Arlington. I've never been to one before, but I'm intrigued by the toppings.
  3. Pretty sure there's a Paisano's in that area. They're my delivery option of choice where I live. Can't say I've ever dined in, though and I can only speak for their pies but I've been a loyal customer ever since they opened a location near me.
  4. Jerry's Subs and Pizza, a Gaithersburg-based chain originally founded in Wheaton, is undergoing expansion, with a downtown Silver Spring location opening yesterday: "Jerry's Subs and Pizza Opens on Colesville Road" by Mike Diegel on sourceofthespring.com
  5. I didn't see a thread on Which Which, so I thought I would start one website here: https://www.whichwich.com/#!/ Mon-Sat 10:00 am to 9:30 pm, Sun 11:00 am to 6:00 pm We go to the Ballston location when we go, their staff is nice and it is very efficient. They have very little inside seating, but they have some outside tables under the awning to eat at, as well. I have found a number of their subs to be pretty good, not anything like a homemade sub shop, but definitely a step above Subway. I like it just a bit better than Potbelly, as I find there to be more options and easier to select what you want in the ordering process, plus they keep later hours than the Potbelly near us. I find their hours to actually be later than many of the places near us, so it is a later evening oh shoot I need to eat and darn I just missed many other closing times option in Ballston. I got their Philly Cheesesteak with provolone special recently and was quite happy with it. I also like that they have the fancy coke machine.
  6. Lately my mom has developed a fondness for the cooking at Mama Wok, an area chain that's been around for a while (hey, a Phyllis Richman review from 1996?) but mostly off my radar. Having finally sampled the wares last night from their downtown Rockville location, I'd have to say that while perhaps not top-tier, it was very good for an inexpensive Chinese restaurant (most of which I avoid like the plague), and extremely useful for their arrangement of the entrees on their unified-language menu into sections for both Americanized and "Chinese Special" sections, so you could satisfy an broad variation of Chinese food expectations when dining with a mixed group. Sorry, I'll have to follow up later with dish names since I can't recognize them from the names on the menu, but the soft noodles were good and ropey, while the stir-fry of beef and scallions over a next of crispy thin noodles did a remarkable job of emulating Mongolian lamb. Spice levels are mainstream northern Chinese...no fancy Szechuan work here, just homey dishes if you avoid the goopy-saucy-unauthentic sections of the menu. I couldn't find websites for the two Rockville locations, but the downtown one is located in a strip mall to the right of the Giant, across Rt 355 from where N Washington St rejoins. It's next door to Atlantic Guns & Archery, if you know where that is. The other location is on the Dufief/Travilah side of town, in the old/new Rt 28 triangle where Key West Ave diverges from Darnestown Rd.
