  1. I am thinking of spending NYE in the District😍 I know it happens to be crowned amateur night's out by industry folk, but honestly I don't give a hoot, and want to know where the most festive spot will be? Help!!!!
  2. Does anyone know of any places offering a "special" NYE lunch this year? As a general rule, we avoid venturing out that evening, but since NYE falls on a Saturday, I thought it might be fun to go have a nice lunch somewhere. I thought I just read something about places offering lunch, but I can't recall where I read it.
  3. What a perfect New Year's for me - A magnum of 1993 Vilmart & Cie (à Rilly-la-Montagne, fondée a 1890) <<Coeur de Cuvée>> Champagne Brut 1er Cru Clemson 31, Ohio State 0 in the Fiesta Bowl And the last taste of anything in 2016 / first taste of anything in 2017: a glass of 1926 Barbeito Malvasia Madeira Life just doesn't get much better than tonight has been. Happy New Year to all our members, and THANK YOU for all that you do! Cheers! Rocks
  4. Hubby and I recently have been working non-stop with weekends taken up by various commitments we enjoy doing, but has made for not much time for just a nice night out for the two of us. So we probably will go out for NYE. I know, I know, overpriced yadda yadda. We would love to do Rogue 24, but that seems like it may be a bit too expensive although I am sure it will be lovely, we will try to get there on another night. I would like to go somewhere fancy-ish though and am willing to spend up to about $200 per person before tax and tip. The grill room is $350 per person for a five course menu so that will probably be a non-NYE night we go there. I emailed Momofoku to see if they still had tables as that looked good. There seem to be no reservations anywhere I really want to go after 5:30 or the price tag like the above is just really high, I didn't realize I was booking so late... Thoughts on other good places that still have reservations? From opentable.com I see: 2941 Centrolina Equinox Fiola (I wish Fiola Mare had a later opening, but only at 5:30 pm, but maybe I can rezhound that one) Garrison Osteria Morini the Oval Room Proof Restaurant Eve I love the Source but we have gone now for two really big occasions, they knocked it out of the park, but still it might be too repetitive? But we haven't been since the re-do. Sushi-Ko What places don't use opentable these days?
  5. The age old question perhaps - is there anywhere worthy that is offering their full menu, not doing a special tasting menu on NYE? Bonus points if they might still be able to accommodate a larger group. Extra bonus points if they're in MD or easily accessible from the Greenbelt end of the green line (Shaw, etc). I had hoped this might be my chance to finally get to Dino's Grotto, but it appears the a la carte menu is only at the bar.
  6. Some people go to Vegas, some go to Times Square. We went to Ocean City.with a side trip to join 3,000 others in the Victorian town of Berlin: go cups, carriage rides and a rock and roll band on stage with antique shops nearby. Before sunset we walked the Boardwalk, stopped by Crown Candy Kitchen and opened a serious bottle on our balcony with ocean air wafting in the distance. At 6:30 we joined 200 others in Ocean City's best seafood restaurant, Captain's Table, and spent the next three hours pouring, toasting and anticipating the New year. A bit later we ended up strolling down the Boardwalk, noting fireworks on one side of the Atlantic and waves on the other. Meanwhile in Berlin several thousand were raising glasses and pressing palms as 2014 approached and a few horses neighed with their own opinions for the visitors they entertained. An incredible introduction to 2014. With all due respect to Times Square and Las Vegas Boulevard the Boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland has an opinion on New Year's Eve. Berlin, Maryland, too. We will be back next year. And every year after. And, one of these years, somebody will write about Ocean City and Berlin and a few thousand more people will share in this wondrous introduction to the Next Year.
