Bought an ice cream book by Jeni's (local chain that started in Ohio I believe). Made maybe a dozen different recipes - all great. A year and a half ago, got to try some while in Ohio - still great! I was at the Columbia, MD Wegmans maybe a month or two ago, scanning to see if Haagen Dazs' 'gelato' salty caramel was back in rotation (nope, not sure why but nobody locally stocks it for some dumb reason) - and THEY HAVE JENI's . Bought 4. Have since gotten a few more. More limited selection (we're tried the 5 they have but they are all quite, quite good. Making it at home fresh is better, but not nearly as easy as going to Wegmans and buying some. mmmmmm --- Jeni's Thread in the Washington, DC Restaurants and Dining Forum [dracisk]

Ocean Prime. Looks like another expense account steak and seafood chain is opening up just blocks from the White House, at 14th and G in the old Ceiba space. "OCEAN PRIME is much more than just a steakhouse or a seafood restaurant. OCEAN PRIME is an extraordinary dining destination." "We deliver more than just in amazing food and drinks: We create remarkable experiences." "Stylish attire suggested." I'd yawn, but I can't work up the energy.

Enjoyed a good meal at this new fast casual place in Mosaic a few weeks ago. The three of us each got different meats with sides (lentils, etc). The Naan was well made and buttery. I don't recall all the details, but it was hearty and reasonable. Sauces were not too spicy but flavorful and unboring. I do recall this weird automatic hand wash contraption thing in the dining room. It was awesome.

Hard to believe, but their is a new restaurant in Tyson's, next to BJ's and Neisha Thai (in ythe old Bertrutti's space) Paladar Latin Kitchen Claudia and I were looking for a quick meal on Saturday night and decided to give it a whirl. While the remodel was nice, this has all the indications of a chain. That being said, we had a couple of seats at the bar and ordered a few mojitos and a few of their latin street foods. The mojitos were pretty good, lots of fresh mint and lime. The first item to arrive was a wonderful bowl of guac with some house made chips. Really nicely done, fresh, good sized portion and at $5 bucks a bargain to boot. We then when on to a couple of braised beef tacos, another winner, nicely dressed and the beef was fantastic. The trio of salsas was "ok" nothing really special, and the seafood ceviche was ok as well. The service was very good and friendly. Decent for Happy hour, we will return to try a few more items.

Ya know... Of fast food joints, Wendy's usually was one of my favorites. The fries were bland but the only ones I'd regularly eat with ketchup. Whatever. Now they have the new fries and - blech. They are salted all to heck and back. I can't eat them. In fact, they're so salty that the burger tastes funny with them. Sigh. Just had to get that off my chest. Wendy's new fries suck.
