Dog Haus opened today. The second local location, the other being in Bethesda. It's a chain from California. It's a small footprint, but a tight concept with a full bar, tons of taps, and hot dogs, sausages, burgers, and plant based choices as well. I will wait until it calms down a bit (free dogs today and before opening there was a line around the block at least 100 deep!).

I was watching a baseball video from the Dead Ball Era, and noticed a brief glimpse of a vendor (presumably in Chicago) selling "Red Hot" sausages. You can catch a glimpse of this at around the 5:18 mark (look at the bottom-center of your screen, but don't blink, or you'll miss it). (I think it's pretty safe to say that Barry Bonds would have hit about 9,000 home runs had he played in the 1920s.)

Needed to start a thread on the very good neighborhood tavern in Highlandtown, Snake Hill. Highlandtown is, arguably, one of the current frontiers of Baltimore gentrification with fancy new condos next to bodegas. Notwithstanding this development, it still maintains the diversity of ethnicity and races that other neighborhoods (cough*Canton*cough) no longer have. Tucked just off the main artery of Highlandtown is Snake Hill, a seeming hole-in-the-wall that actually maintains an excellent beer list and, notably, a delicious array of handmade sausages. Not content to focus on the standards, i.e., bratwurst, Italian sausage, chorizo, etc., Snake Hill also incorporates exotic meats into its menu, such as alligator and rabbit + rattlesnake. I enjoyed the 'Pho-Q' sausage, a pork, fennel, and Sriracha sausage, which I opted to have served in the 'Pho' Real' sandwich format; it is what you would expect---the sausage served with pho accouterments such as Thai basil, sprouts, hoisin, and jalapeno. I certainly recommend a visit, and I will be certainly be aiming for a return visit to continue working my way through the menu.

Well! My thoughtful assistant has brought me two pounds of brisket and one sausage link, all pre-cooked in the pit, from Smitty's Market - has anyone tried this before? It was just delivered from Texas, cooked yesterday I believe, and will be reheated perhaps tonight. She went to college in Austin, and says it's her favorite brisket - she's still quite young, but is also a hardcore food-hound. (Allow me to get a plug in for Operation Honor our Heroes.)

I did not know there's a sausage party in my backyard, it's called Tysons Biergarten. You have to buy food and drink tokens. Website

i can't believe there is no thread for meats and foods. they opened quietly in august 2013. they were previously supplying several bars and eateries under the name "13th st. meats" while working out of the kitchen at pharmacy bar but they finally opened a brick-and-mortar shop at the corner of Florida St. NW and 3rd St. NW. they offer a rotating and fairly wide variety of sausages, including half smokes, thai basil chicken, brats, a roasted poblano, and chorizo. everything is made at the shop. they can be consumed there or taken home. i love their sausages. they have been well tested and the care and love is evident. but what i really love right now is their vegan dog and vegan chili. this is far superior than anything else in DC, including ben's regular chili cheese dog. the vegan dog has the best texture. it's primarily gluten mixed with smashed black eye peas and garbanzo beans. they offer a small but choice selection of beverages. mexican cola, DC Brau, broadbent vinho verde. did i forget to mention that the sausage sandwiches on martin's potato rolls are all $6??? add ons, like sauerkraut and gordy's pickles can run you an additional $0.35-$0.50. you can also order a bowl of chili for $5. any 4 links to go are $10. they started ofering house made bacon for $5. they don't appear to have a website but they are active on facebook and instgram and will post their menu once a week on instagram.

For those who like to sample some swine with their healthier farmers market purchases, the South Riding Farmers Market, which is actually now the Wellness Connection Farmers Market at the new Gum Spring Library in Stone Ridge, Saturdays 9-1, has a barbecue guy who does ribs, pulled pork, sausages, and hot dogs. It's Uncle Fred's BBQ Smoke Shack: here's their Facebook page which has their number and locations.
