  1. I'm going to add my triangle of Mexican dining-El Paso, Taco Jalisco, & Tacos el Costalilla-El Paso has been a mainstay for us- most of the cooks & servers are from a previous favorite restaurant-El Puerto, further up Rt. 1, next to the Denny's-I'd say we eat there at least monthly(& frequently more often We don't eat at Taco Jalisco & Tacos El Costalilla as often, but it's not because they're not good- excellent sopes at both places & really good ceviche. I am grateful that I live close to so many wonderful restaurants.
  2. Dupont Circles ever expanding set of lunch options just got a little bigger. Tomatillo Taqueria operates out of the bay window of The Big Hunt (right next door to the new Kabab place which was hiring today) and is a welcome and cheap addition to the hood. 3 Tacos $6 (beef, chicken, pork or veggie, choice of 6/7 gratis toppings, except guac which will run you $1) Burrito $6 Some side dishes (chips and salsa etc) I went for the Tacos and was impressed. Interested to hear others opinions.
  3. Just about any dive-y taqueria in California is going to be an improvement over what's available in similar places here. Except Tito's in West L.A. It's extremely popular (with gringos that is), and the food is horrible. Little greasy, leathery turkey tacos and I think they mix their guacamole with mayonnaise--yick. Whenever we are in L.A., my husband and daughter love to torment me by demanding to go there. It's not far from Guelaguetza, so I tell them that I will drop them at Tito's and pick them up later, after I've had a delicious empanada de barbacoa. I've never been to the place in Santa Barbara--it's very famous, though. Anyplace that cares enough to make their own tortillas is worth lining up for.
