May be a bit premature to start a new thread for a 'rumor', but I was pretty excited to read that Shake Shack may have signed a lease to come to DC. I have only heard glowing reviews of the NYC Shake Shack. I think this could give several of our burger chains a run for their money. DC really is becoming a burger mecca.

Keith, not only did you "touch" the comment, you slammed it to the ground, starting with the rhetorical word, "accusing." I understand you may not want to argue (and quite honestly, neither do I), but let's at least be forthright. Writing one sentence - literally, one sentence - about a subject does tend to result in oversimplification.

Go to the front room of the Grammercy Tavern. Spectacular food, beautiful but informal setting. No reservations, so early or late are your best bet.

Another bombshell in that piece is that Gabriel Kreuther is leaving The Modern around the end of the year - he was the opening chef, and has been there since 2004.

Shake Shack is entering the Califiornia market, but might not be aware of the difference that the California market presents for burger restaurants. There have been many posts on In-n-Out Burger on this site, and I have posted about my personal favorite -- Habit Burger. But there are quite a few others, and the California people and specific locations make a lot of differences too. Good luck figuring out that market, Danny Meyer.

With Chef Nick Anderer at the helm, the newest restaurant from Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group hits the ground running. Nick is also the head chef at Maialino, another favorite of ours; Marta is Nick's and Danny's latest take on Roman cuisine, that of the Roman pizzeria, as a matter of fact. That (a Roman pizzeria) means that in addition to pizza, there's plenty of other good stuff to eat. And eat we did - 4 of us scarfed down a good portion of the menu - there wasn't anything I wouldn't have again (well, maybe the octopus, but that's just 'cause I'm sick of octopus in general). 3 pies, beer brined chicken, a bunch of apps, cocktails, wine - we were happy campers. Here's the Margherita... And a full blog post, with a few more pictures... Marta, My Dear
