There's a sign in the window of the old Ben & Jerry's saying the place is leased. 'Bold Bites' is the name of the place I think. No idea when it'll open.

Planning to check out the outdoor market at Union Station tomorrow and looking for recommendations. Does that location have the same menu as their Georgia Ave location?

This tweet pretty much says it all. It's $24 to park at Union Station for 12-24 hours, and there's no validation for Amtrak. If you park for a partial day, there isn't much relief, as 2-12 hours will set you back $20. The official web page with current rates is here. If you take a weekend trip to New York or Philadelphia (or wherever), leaving Friday afternoon, and returning Sunday evening, you're going to be shelling out a whopping $68 for parking (*) Depending on where you live, taking Uber or a taxi will be both cheaper and easier. Remember this post is here - it could save you a lot of money in the future. (*) Please note that the website says, "Lost Ticket (flat rate) $24.00," so if you're gone for longer than a day, make sure not to lose your ticket, or you'll be costing the parking garage a lot of money.

I need to organize a dinner for about 9 people next week after a special event. The keywords are nice and quiet. Bis? How loud is Johnny's? Art and Soul? I don't think they want Sonoma on the House side.

There are dozens of Yo! Sushis in the United Kingdom, but Union Station is their opening foray into the United States. It's in the West Hall (hard to find unless you're looking for it) along with Chop't, Potbelly, Roti, Chipotle, and maybe a couple other "better than terrible" fast food operations. Yo! Sushi is fun, extremely friendly, and murderously efficient. I just sat there and marveled at how every possible thing had been addressed in making eating here an exercise in ergonomics (yes, I know, ergonomics relates to workplace conditions, but think about who the author of this post is). You have to experience the efficiency to fathom it - it has everything from personal, underground ginger and wasabi containers to an orange iHelp button. I'm surprised the soy sauce didn't pour itself. The sushi is what you'd expect, and my only advice would be to show a bias toward the looser rolls - the ones that have been bambooed are just too compressed for my palate. If you have a train to catch, get here an hour early, assume you'll be filling up on a lot of rice, and you can enjoy a pleasant, reasonably healthful, moderately sized meal for about $20 (and of course, they have grab-n-go sushi as well). East Street Cafe, my go-to spot at Union Station, serves up a smattering of Filipino dishes. The pan-Asian restaurant is Filipino owned and operated. While I have had only the adobo from among their Filipino offerings, I will say that several other dishes--most notably the house spicy ginger beef--are consistently good. Some of their Filipino dishes: Lumpia Summer Rolls Fried Tofu Chicken Mami Pork Adobo Manila Pork Barbeque Pancit Bihon

Are you still alive?? By the way, have any of you heard that a new owner will be taking over the entire Union Station food court/circus/waste dump/superfund site? It's been reported in the Hill Rag and Voice of the Hill, but I can't find a link to either.

I have a kind of unique situation. This Saturday we are meeting someone coming into Union Station around 3:00 pm. They will need to leave before 7:00 pm for a dinner. I need to find a place in the vicinity where we could have light snacks, coffee, drinks, but not a dinner, between 3 and 6:30 pm. I don't know this area well at all, so hoping some of you may have some suggestions. Thanks!

I started my day in Restaurant Hell yesterday by dining at Union Station's America. I was seeing a friend off, and we decided to have lunch before her train to New York left. We chose America because it was what appeared to be a nice place, and it was near the gate to the Acela. I guess I should do a better job of checking out restaurants. I ordered the Cuban sandwich. It arrived having been microwaved. The bottom half of the roll was soggy, thin and falling apart. The center of the meat was cold. I ate two bites. My friend, who is used to eating in New York, wasn't impressed. Now I have to buy her lunch. In Manhattan. At a place of her choosing. You'd think that by now I'd learn. Wayne Rash

Dangerously Delicious Pies is coming to DC, opening very soon at 1339 H Street (next door to H St Country Club). They had hoped to open before Thanksgiving, but have not quite yet finished everything. Thanksgiving pies (apple, pecan, pumpkin, and sweet potato) are available now via telephone order at (202) 398-PIES. I haven't been to the Baltimore location, but I hear they are very popular, and they get some serious love in the dr.com thread on Pies. Here's what "thelistareyouonit" has to say about them:
