  1. Dear daughter is graduating from high school on June 5, 2019 (Wednesday). The graduation is in the morning in Northern VA, so we are looking to go out for a weekday lunch. Ideally we would stay in NOVA, but for the best experience we would be willing to drive to DC or MD. Budget: about $40-50/person before gratuity, but flexible on this. Party of 6. Beautiful contemporary decor is a high priority. DD loves the feel of Founding Farmers in Tysons, and she also likes the decor of Mama Chang in Fairfax. So I am looking for a good weekday lunch place that has such beautiful contemporary decor. My research has come up with Convivial and Centrolina for such decor as well as good food. Any other suggestions (or comments on lunch at Convivial/Centrolina) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  2. Hi all, I'm planning a sit-down dinner for approximately 45 people the evening of Wednesday, November 5. My guests will be staying at the Four Points Sheraton at 12th & K for a conference at the Convention Center. So the ideal location should be within a 12-15 minute walk of those venues. Due to the size of the party, we will need a private room. Our budget is a max of around $50 per person exclusive of tax, tip, and alcohol, preferably lower. I did a search of Open Table using the "larger party" option and found some surprisingly decent results. The ones I feel are close enough I've listed below. If anyone has alternate suggestions or comments about the following, I'd appreciate it. We're also very open about the type of restaurant -- ethnic food is definitely on the table (worst pun ever). Anyway, here's what Open Table has in the vicinity: Acadiana, Bibiana (!), Bobby Van's Grill, Brasserie Beck, Carmine's, Clyde's of Gallery Place, CoCo Sala, Cuba Libre, DC Coast, Kellari Taverna, Mio, Oceanaire, Ping Pong Dim Sum Chinatown, Poste, Rural Society. Thanks!
  3. After wondering whether the fact that the New York Times and the Washington Post publish their food sections on the same day was a mere coincidence, I set off to research the question on the Internet and found no clear answer. I did, however, find this nifty page that lists newspaper food sections and columns online by day of the week. Wednesday is the most popular day of the week for a newspaper food section or column to appear, by a large margin. So, while I have been unable to answer my original question, I am left with a new one: What's the deal with Wednesdays and newspaper food sections?
