  1. Nice plug for Virginia wine in today's New York Times: "A Taste of Vintage Virginia" by Jessica Merrill on nytimes.com --- Barboursville Vineyards (DCMark)
  2. Copied directly from FB from Merry Edwards: --- I want to thank everyone for all the well-wishes. I also want to let everyone know that there are no changes planned for the winery, at least for a while, which is one of the reasons I decided to sell to Louis Roederer. Of course this was a difficult decision for me to make. My life of wine has been more than 45 years; 22 years ago I founded the Merry Edwards brand. I wanted to be able to put my life’s work in the hands of someone who understood our wines and our vineyards, and who would care for our employee family. I also wanted to make this transition while I have the energy to help create a successful future for our company. I saw in the Roederer family a history of dedication to place and to maintaining the integrity of the family-owned wineries they have purchased. Their attitude is based on the long-term view, which is refreshing. Roederer buys to hold and improve. They take their time to find companies that share their core values. One look at our vineyards told them that we care deeply about the land and its stewardship. I spent quite a bit of time with many of their top team members. Like us, they are a passionate, hardworking group. Many of their employees have decades of history with them. They appreciate our wines and what it takes to make them. I developed a level of trust that allowed me to move forward with the transaction and to commit a year as GM for them. It’s been an amazing ride, but it’s not over yet! #MerryEdwardsWinery #LouisRoederer #RussianRiverPinotNoir
  3. I may have the opportunity to write an collection of places not to be missed in Philly. With the wealth of the posters in this forum, I am asking for a little help. Please chime in where I should visit, and places that are not to be missed. The spots can range from where to eat, where to dine, where the best public bathroom is , think unusual, think funky, think like a local. Please and thank you for all your suggestions. Once I am chosen to write this book, I will personally throw a party and invite everyone to celebrate my very first publication. This is our opportunity to go public. It is with the support of everyone that I have met along the way, including a few of you in this forum, that will encourage me to crush this challenge. I plan on KILLIN' It. 1st time, kat
  4. Amazing review. I'll be at AD Hoc next weekend, can't wait. --- I'll be in Napa next weekend and looking to set up one more winery visit. Much prefer intimate and curated tours over the ones where you stand in a tasting room vying for the next sip. Last year we sat with winemaker Dennis Johns of Round2 and white Cottage in his house and were given a several hour conversation on his beliefs and philosophy. We have appts at Venge( I met Kurt the other week at a diner), Cade and Chapellet and are looking for one other. We do random, semi planned stops as well but too many of those lead to early nights. I.E. one year after a cellar tour at Flora Springs the guide sat down with us and opened 10+ bottles of Trilogy. So please let me know your one favorite tour/winery in the Napa Valley.
