I'd like to offer a $250 Baratza Virtuoso Grinder to any starving barista (or coffee enthusiast) in the area for free - the problem is that it almost surely needs a part because it has stopped grinding. Write me for details - you can probably fix this to "like-new" condition for under $75 total, although that's just a guess; either way, it's yours for free. You'll need some enthusiasm, knowledge, and elbow grease, and you'll have yourself the best coffee grinder on the market. I'd prefer to give this to someone who truly loves coffee, but can't afford a top-of-the-line grinder - write me. -
Does anyone want a stack of 32 cooking light magazine’s? Most are from 95, 96 and 97. There’s at least one from 2002. Free to a good home. If no one wants them, anyone have any idea what to do with them? I’d hate to just toss them out. I was thinking about calling the local school to see if they could use them for art class.

I have a 7 year old 50,000 BTU convection oven, natural gas that is free for anyone who wants to come get it in downtown DC. A Few notes: * It has had a hard life but is fully operational. A friend of mine has recently moved, and has a room full (literally, a room, full) of about 40-50 moving boxes (stuffed with paper for insulation). These would be *perfect* for anyone moving an entire household of things, and are being given away to donrockwell.com members for free (or, if you have friends who need them, that's fine too). There are two catches to which you should pay close attention (the third is merely a request): * You'll need to pick them up, and since they're not broken down, you'll need a truck to do it with. When I say "a room full," I mean an entire room is full - you can imagine how much space 50-ish boxes takes up (there are about 6 of them that are wardrobe-sized, but they're all of varying sizes). Just visualize "a household move," and you'll visualize this. * It's requested that you take them all, as this isn't only a giveaway to our members, but also a "get rid of" type of thing. If you're moving a one-bedroom apartment, for example, this would be too many boxes for you. * It's also requested that you either give these away, sell them, or recycle them when you're finished, as they're 100% recyclable (these things are actually worth a small amount of money, and you could sell them on Craigslist - whatever you want to do; just please don't let them end up in a landfill). My guess is that if you purchased these, they'd cost you about $200, and you'd need to assemble them - these are pre-assembled. This is both a blessing (you're saved a lot of work) and a curse (you'll need a fairly large truck, or you'll need to make multiple trips). If you're interested, please PM me. The first credible request get them, but please don't underestimate the amount of space these will take up. The owner is very motivated to get rid of these, but nothing is urgent - they are currently being stored in South Arlington, not far from Del Ray and The Pentagon. Don't assume that people are going to jump all over this today - I'll let you know when the boxes are gone, but realistically, this is a "right thing at the right time" situation, and I doubt anyone is going to request them in the next five minutes. Artomatic, Washington, DC's unjuried art free-for-all is now up and running. This year's location is 8100 Corporate Dr. Hyattsville, MD 20785, near the New Carrollton Metro and by the intersection of Rt. 50 and I-495. What is an unjuried art free-for-all? The art is not selected by a commission (or jury), it's first-come, first-served. Participants pay a small fee and volunteer time to staff the event. Meaning anyone can put just about anything up on the walls. Meaning some of it is great and some of it is crap...its all in the eye of the beholder. Evenings include a rotating selection of artist talks, workshops, music, film, and dance. Open Wednesdays-Sundays (closed Mondays and Tuesdays) And the best part...it's FREE. -
If anyone's dodging holiday traffic and sticking around, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities is sponsoring a FREE music festival Fri-Sun at the Lincoln Theatre on U Street. I'm particularly excited cause I'll be performing around 7pm on Saturday (my first time at that venue), but the entire wknd lineup looks great. For the 4th year I am organizing a charity event called CupcakeCampDC. This year we'll be benefiting Becky's Fund, a local non-profit organization that raises awareness about domestic violence. The event is a cupcake tasting event and we need bakers (and tasters, when we get more bakers!). There will be free cupcakes, $15 unlimited mimosas, live DJs, a judging competition, raffle prizes, a custom jewelry bar, and a silent auction. Come on out to the Brixton on October 5th for a good cause! VIP admission starts at 12 and General Admission starts at 1pm. Hi Everyone! For the third year in a row, I'm hosting CupcakeCampDC. Basically it's a free event (with suggested donation of $5) where you can come and eat cupcakes. First year we had it as a free for all, which didn't work so well since people were bringing tupperware containers and hoarding cupcakes or taking one bite of every cupcake and throwing them away, while others didn't get to try any! Last year we adopted a system similar to "tasting events", where your donation gets you a certain number of tickets equal to that number of cupcakes and that seemed to work much better. This year it is at Continental in Rosslyn, with free games! I have purchased two tickets to tonight's Les Dames d'Escoffier Chinese New Year Dinner at Hollywood East (see flier below) but because of illness will be unable to attend. I haven't been able to contact Les Dames to see if there is a waiting list but did call Hollywood East who will try and contact them on my behalf. If that falls through Hollywood East said that I could call them with the names of two people who could substitute for me. I'm checking with one person in my office to see if they're available but since there's no sense in wasting what I hoped to be a good meal I'd like to possibly make these tickets available to a Don Rockwell member. The first person who posts gets the tickets free of charge (if I can't get rid of them first). Just make sure that you have your arrangements in place (child care, transportation, etc.) before responding because I hate to see good food wasted.
