  1. I thought I'd throw this out there after reviewing some year end activity. This past year the Professional Bartending School provided bartenders for over 130 parties, events, weddings, corporate events, holiday parties, etc. We don't aggressively advertise or market this service. The school doesn't charge for the service. We will connect you with our graduates and you pay them direct. We are currently in contact with over 1,000 graduates ranging from people with over 10 years experience to new grads. We have suggested hourly rates. Many of our grads already work for caterers, so you get the same personnel who might cater your event without the overhead charges. Hosts have hired our grads for bartending, serving, barbacking etc. We have staffed events with one to 12 bartenders in the past year. This year we additionally staffed up many caterers for the holiday season, with some having started their hiring as early as last summer. In past years we often last minute or over a rush two weeks would staff holiday parties and busy December weekends full of parties with up to 100 grads per weekend. While party season is dying down with New Years this is a year round opportunity as we always have available graduates for any events. You can contact us at http://bartending-school.com or see pictures of grads at our facebook page http://facebook.com/ProfessionalBartendingSchoolDC, Phone number is 703 841 9700 and the contact email for our placement director is PBSPlacement@gmail.com
  2. If anyone is looking for a great photographer whether it be for a family shoot or wedding, this guy is awesome. Being in the business as long as I have been recommending purveyors has never been a top priority simply because I deal with so many of them on a day to day situation. Djenno was awesome to deal with and has always been highly recommended not because he is over the top but because of his approach. Photographers from what I now know have to read so many different cards before getting the right shot. Lighting, scene, the individuals they are shooting and so on. When it came time to take some pictures of my boys for the family, we had never used a professional before always opting for the iPhone shot. My wife having worked with Djenno before while planning events (which is what she does in her spare time) said she wanted him to do the pictures and she couldn't have been more right. He was great to work with, had a plan of places to take the pictures from that would be a good setting not just for me and my wife but my two little ones. He couldn't have been any nicer to work with when it came to getting a 3 year old and 10 year old to hold positions, get into certain positions. I guess having two little girls as he does helps to be able to communicate to children. The pictures were fantastic and like I said I would recommend him for any style of photo shoot. 5. Catering was an area that I worried about when we were planning our wedding. Thanks to this website, many of my friends / family think I have a better knowledge / understanding of food than I actually do , but it was important to me to have at least "good" food at my wedding. Looking back, we are now just about 2 weeks away from our wedding and one thing has been consistent in our chats with all of our guests has been: "the food was awesome!". Well Dunn catering made that happen. We were fortunate that Jen's maid of honor is a corporate event planner here in DC and when we first started talking about potential caterers, she had recommended Well Dunn to us. We wanted to do something a little different with our food and we wanted to ensure it wasn't the standard "wedding food". From the minute we walked into their show space (right near Eastern Market) I was impressed with the creativity both in the food as well as their design (although to be frank, I cared way more about the food than the linens / plates...my now wife on the other hand developed an unhealthy obsession when it came to the type of chairs, plates, etc). Yulia Poukalova was our point of contact and she was willing to work with us to create a menu, from passed apps to mains and a plated desert, that was everything we had hoped for. After deciding on a menu she conducted an incredible tasting. From a wine perspective she actually pushed us to work with Ace Beverage on our own as it would save us some money and allow us to have full contract of the wines / booze / beers which was much appreciated. Yulia has a bright and bubbly personality that is infectious and truly helped me get through the times where my wife was pouring over which glassware and plates to use while I was in a corner staring off into space In their show space (its basically an open townhouse) they were able to set up a table and my wife was able to work with multiple colors / textures / plating options. She was extremely pleased with the result (as was I when I walked into the reception space...it was perfect). Additionally as we got closer to the reception, Yulia was extremely helpful in providing advice on how / where to set up the bars / tables / etc in the venue. I always felt that she was offering advice or good counsel, vs "telling" us what we needed to do. On the day itself, Yulia and her team truly enhanced the experience of our reception. They literally had one server whose sole job was to find my wife and I and ensure that we were eating, had a drink, etc. After all the stories of folks who didn't have the chance to eat b/c their reception was such a whirlwind, it was appreciated. Another piece that they really were exceptional at was the pacing of the food. Again, we were always told that most couples end up not eating b/c they're working the room. Yulia made sure that we ate and had time to move about the room while others were being served. I even had people come up to me and say how nicely paced the meal was. In terms of the food itself, this was our menu: -Passed Appetizers (cocktail hour): goat cheese and carmelized onion tartlets, lobster cake with papaya mayo, pig in a blanket over a shot of beer, fig and prosciuto crostini, duck over a pear chip - Cup of butternut squash soup with bourbon pistou alongside a pear and gorgonzola salad - Passed Assortment of Breads - Braised short ribs over risotto cake served with leek wrapped green beans or fall vegetable baklava over lemon scented orzo - Pumpkin Creme Brulee The best compliment I can pay Yulia and the team from Well Dunn is that everything was as delicious when served for 110 guests as it was when we sat down just the 3 of us for the tasting. The fact they were able to deliver on both scales was impressive and I would highly recommend Well Dunn (Yulia in particular) for someone looking not only for a wedding caterer but for any large scale event. http://www.welldunn.com/ Dave Hofman
  6. First and foremost, let me start off by saying that I hate having my picture taken. During the wedding planning process it was one of the things I dreaded the most...the idea of someone sticking a camera in my face for basically an entire day sounded miserable. Then we met Kelsey. Kelsey had done the wedding photography for two couples that my wife and I are very close with so we knew the end product would be fantastic, however, sitting in her Alexandria studio (attached to her house) I found myself thinking "This is someone I'd like to have at my wedding regardless of if she's a vendor or not". She immediately put me at ease and is about as down to earth as you could possibly be. She clearly has a great eye for pictures and her abilities to create custom albums and different packages for each couples needs really was appreciated. Importantly, not once in the entire process did I ever feel like I was being "sold"...she seemed completely fine if we had chosen the smallest package or the largest and helped us envision what we would do with each in the same helpful detail. I very clearly remember walking down her sidewalk with my then fiance and both of us chuckling and saying "well its no contest, it has to be her". Leading up to the wedding she was extremely helpful in planning ideas (where to do the reveal, how to handle family pictures, etc) and timelines that proved to be not only useful, but necessary, as we got closer to the big day. On our wedding day Kelsey lived up to our expectations and more. Despite the threat of rain, we were able to do our reveal without a hitch at the DC World War I Memorial while Kelsey fended off meddling park police (we did have a permit) and organized our group quickly and efficiently. At the ceremony and reception, I almost didnt even realize that Kelsey was there (and that is a compliment) once we got through the family pictures. Her ability to herd the families through in a way that allowed us to actually enjoy our cocktail hour was greatly appreciated. She found me just before she was packing up to leave for the night and asked if there was anything she could do for me. I quickly asked if she had been able to get a few shots we'd discussed and she laughed and said she had. She looked exhausted and I knew she had worked her butt off both getting the best pictures she could as well as ensuring that in doing so, she in now way made us feel like she was imposing. We were truly lucky to have Kelsey Thompson as the photographer that chronicled our special day, and I would wholeheartedly endorse her to anyone who is just beginning the wedding planning process. http://www.kthompsonphotography.com David Hofman
