I don't have much of an idea of where to start looking for reasonably priced catering. A friend suggested Whole Foods, but there must be other options to don't cost $80 per person. Your thoughts would be welcomed! If you want something out of the ordinary, think BBQ. Granted it may be too casual but it is much cheaper than $80 per person. My personal favorite (and someone I will be contracting for our Xmas meal for the extended family) is a korean caterer (korean food). You get about 10 different dishes and its about $15 to $18 a person. The deal cannot be beat but there is a matter of the guest being adventurous eaters. I've had event at my house where the neighbors did not touch any of the food. I believe the more adventurous eaters got a real treat. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Also...I love the idea of a catering subforum. Thanks! Hi. Just saw this thread; sorry about being late to the party. When my true love and I got married in 2006 we did the same thing. I don't right now recall the name of the caterer we used, but there are lots of smaller outfits located in out-of-the-way business parks that can do the job for you. Ask around, call them up, then go out and sample their stuff. IIRC we had about 100 guests and paid around $5500, so $55 a head. It was a traditional style menu, about 3-4 apps passed on platters, a big salmon centerpiece, some hot things, some deserts---we did the wedding at home, no sit down just walk around. The cake we got elsewhere (Cakes Plus in Laurel IIRC). As suggested above, you can also use a restaurant as caterer and perhaps go the ethnic route. There are hundreds or thousands to choose from among. Had it been my decision we might have done that. Chinese, Middle-eastern, many possibilities for a crowd pleaser there. Chinese places in particular are often accustomed to doing weddings--I'm sure many of them have a ring binder full of photos to show you. Is Janet Yu back in business yet (Hollywood East OTB)????
