Pool Boy
We did not renew our Cooks Illustrated subscription (mainly for just online access), and thought that was it. After there had been some fraud on her card a while back, she got a new card number and when it was time to renew or not renew, somehow, Cooks Illustrated managed to renew the subscription anyway with the new card number somehow, never adequately explaining how this was possible to happen. It took a long call and a series of escalations to managers to get them to reverse the charges and sort of kind of explain it in a way that prompted us to call our bank that then explained it in a more meaningful way. Either way, their customer service folks on the phone did not handle the situation well at all. Could have nothing to do with the folks producing the content, but it is what it is.

I always pay magazine subscriptions by personal check and never a credit card for that very reason. Almost all subscription forms have small print authorizing auto-renewals when paying by credit card.
