50th Birthday Celebration

We are going out next weekend to celebrate my husband's 50 birthday with 2 dear friends who are also big foodies. One has worked with many famous chefs (in a non-cooking capacity) and she usually makes the restaurant recommendations. I'd love to surprise them all and come up with someplace new for us to try. My husband prefers light foods and usually orders salmon if it's on the menu. I don't usually eat meat, but would love some good fish or any vegetables. Our friends also eat healthy foods, but we would love to indulge a little to celebrate the half century mark. We appreciate good cooking, just don't want to feel too loaded down at the end of the meal. And of course, we want a good dessert to finish us off. Interesting libations would also fun.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think you could find a better restaurant to celebrate a 50th birthday than Corduroy. The ambiance is just so calm and pleasant and the food is always delicious. I've had wonderful fish there and the soups are incredible. Have never felt loaded down after a meal.

I'm taking her out in DC, she's taking me out in Baltimore (and she'll pick that one).

I originally thought Fiola but now there are so many options and I'm so out of the loop (thanks, kid).  I trust DRers to steer me in the right direction.  I loved my one meal at Fiola but I know there are so many good options now.

I'd prefer somewhere that takes reservations.  It's for a Friday night at the end of the month.

Thanks, Nancy

You may want to consider Casa Luca over Fiola. Also, Doi Moi, Kapnos, Komi, Rogue 24, Marcel's, Sushi Taro, or Cityzen Bar ($50 for 3 courses - no reservations needed or taken).

Before I left I went to Casa Luca, Komi, and Sushi Taro in a three week period.  I'd pick Sushi Taro over the other two; it was the most unique and special of the three restaurants, and not just because of the company.

i just went to Casa Luca and thoroughly enjoyed it.  It's much more casual than Fiola but more fun.  Komi or CityZen can't be beat if money isn't an issue, although it may be too late for both in terms of reservations. I would throw Del Campo in the mix as well.  Lots of wonderful grilled meats.  The deciding factor at this point may be where you can get a reservation.
