I have a memorial service next Friday at Howard (see my previous post in "To Whom Are You Drinking" - very sad). I'm not familiar with the area - is there a parking lot near the Louis Stokes Library? Gladly will pay to park - just want it to be easy so I don't have to think that day. Thanks, Nancy

I'm very sorry, Nancy. If you go to the Google Satellite Map (zoom in), you'll see there is street parking near 5th and W Streets, and also a parking lot at the College of Dentistry. You may want to actually call the College of Dentistry (202) 865-6100 or the library (202) 884-1520, tell them what your problem is, and ask what they would do.

I took public transit the last time I had a funeral at Howard. I can't remember where my boss parked--he gave me a ride back. I don't know if public transit adds to your stress or not but it is an option.

The university hospital has two pay lots. One is at the front of the hospital at the Georgia Avenue entrance. Closer to the Stokes library is the Towers lot at the rear of the hospital. That entrance is on 5th Street near W Street. There is valet parking at each lot which is probably useful since the lots are often full otherwise. You can't miss the library from the Towers lot. I'm pretty certain there are no other pay lots around there. I hope this helps. I am sorry for your loss.

Thanks to everyone for the help - I'm going to drive because it saves time and I need to be there by 10:30 am. From Google maps (thanks Don), looks like the Towers lot will work best for me (think business attire and high heels).

Congressman Stokes and many others are sure to be there - my boss was previously his Chief of Staff and probably had something to do with funding the library he's named after. Should be a grand event befitting a grand man.

We're all here to look after each other. Don't thank me; look in a mirror and thank yourself for being such a wonderful member here.

You know, there can be no greater compliment than a "subordinate" (and I use that term very loosely) saying that their "boss" is a great person. Thank you for letting us know about him. He sounds wonderful, and he's lucky to have had you working with him. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Kind regards,
Don
