Wow, that's a pricey lunch...while it may be your "go-to," I think it's past its prime and one can do better for the money at a lot of other places.

I tend to use Artisanal as a go-to spot when I'm in New York with less adventurous diners (my kids' friends, in-laws) and would also be interested in a similar restaurant for similar purposes. Not necessarily French, but energetic without being frenetic, a place you might dress up a bit for but not stiff, reasonably high-quality cooking without without absurdest pricing. Doesn't have to be in the same 'hood.

OK, I'll give it a minor shot, with the understanding that taking a 10 minute walk qualifies as in the neighborhood.

Lan Sheng = 60 W. 39th - excellent Sichuan. Sichuan restaurants are, and have been, experiencing a renaissance in NYC. This is a prime example.

2nd Ave Deli - 162 E. 33rd - just in case you're in the mood for some decent deli.

Gramercy Tavern Front Room - 42 E. 20th - because it's GT.

'inoteca Liquori - 323 3rd Ave. - for great panini

Eataly - well, why not? Lots of eating options.
