Chadwick's? Really? I've only been to the one in Alexandria, and didn't find it all that remarkable.

We used to go pretty regularly to the Chadwick's in Friendship Heights, and just recently went back for the first time in a couple of years. It's remarkable only in it's consistency in providing decent food at a very fair price. I usually get a burger or a sliced pork sandwich. In addition to the burgers, which are decent, J is fond of their ribs and small sirloin steak. We both like the fried calamari and the draft beer. For us it was a place to go, close to home, when I didn't feel like cooking and didn't want pizza or cheap Chinese, my husband didn't want to get dressed up or spend a lot of money, and our entertainment for the evening was going to be browsing in the book store afterwards. There are other places we've been going to in recent years, newer, trendier--Chadwick's is easy, cheaper. Rarely ever a wait for a table, parking isn't a hassle, etc. And when Veggie-teen was younger, she liked the big sheets of white paper on the tables and the crayons.

The Friendship Heights Chadwick’s is not related to the Clyde’s group Chadwick’ses. In order to differentiate themselves, the owners decided to abbreviate their name to Chad’s, ostensibly because Chad’s conjures argyle sweaters, scotch and old money good-times whereas getting a dwink at “Wick’s” is just too Elmer Fuddy-duddy.

They say the FH Chadwick's is the namesake of the owner’s great-grandfather J.R Chadwick –a pioneering 19th century medical librarian and girlie parts specialist. It’s what makes loitering and smoking around the Chadwick’s sign seem so perfectly lewd. Peter, the mild-mannered part-time bartender/ abusive part-time standup comedian & recovering addict has a deep repertoire of Brood II specific cicada jokes which are as scorchingly irreverent as they are topical . It is as good a bar as any other to get starched at after work.

[Thank you kindly, sir, for the useful and substantive info.]

I don't get it. Is there some sort of cross ownership between Chadwicke's and Clydes???

The current Chadwicke's website only has Georgetown and Olde Towne. ON the FB page there is reference to different ownership(s). Could there be two, three???

I assume all staff are the same...

I'm pretty sure King Street Blues which is more than 25 years old and now has three locations has at least 2 ownership groups, if not three. I suppose some of these long term multi site restaurants end up splitting up ownerships.

I think in King Street's case the menus are identical.

Nope.

I was told that a some people associate the K st & Old Town Chadwick's with the Clyde's-style group, maybe because of their ownership of Old Ebbitt and Hamilton and that all the Chadwick's are equally crappy. And so the owners circumscribed their name, probably so that they wouldn't have to make wholesale changes to the chalkboard and whatnot. I still go about twice a week, but I campaigned for "Chazz's".

For Uptown DC eating drinking and sporting fans new owners   It appears that Kornheiser will do on site podcasts....and if they want to celebrate Gary Williams they should come up with a dish that is so hot and spicy you sweat through all your clothes while eating it.  btw I liked it exactly as Zora described it from 2009

Ate at Chatter the other weekend.  Was meeting an out of town old friend who was riding the Red Line from Rockville.  Chatter, directly across Wisconsin Ave South Metro exit at Friendship Heights is extremely easy.

Too easy.  My meal-not good.  Geez I hadn’t been there in a very long time, possibly was never there when the name change occurred from Chadwick’s to Chad’s.  What a freaking long bar, which is where we parked ourselves.

Best element of the meal was that Kornheiser came in and chatted with patrons.  We had an entertaining funny conversation with him.  Easy to speak with.

Having reread comments in this forum there is wisdom in knowing how to choose the right menu items.  I didn’t.

I get the feeling though it also works as @Poivrot Farci described it in the final comments of his  next to last post on the former Chad’s.   Some places maintain that quality for years even decades.

Well Tony Kornheiser announced that he and his team is closing Chatter (formerly known as Chadwick's and then Chad's.  Okay, so back in the day when it was Chadwick's or Chad's I hosted many a drink there (along with some eating).

Probably just as well.  The one time I was there, (referenced above) the food was pretty poor, the bartender was mediocre, but Kornheiser was fun to speak with.   Not nearly enough to keep a restaurant open.
