Dining Out For Life, Thursday, April 24, 2014 - To Benefit "Food & Friends"

Recommended Posts

As many of you know, this Thursday is the Dining Out For Life benefit, where participating restaurants give twenty-five to one-hundred percent of their profits for the night to Food & Friends, a local nonprofit dedicated to deliver meals to individuals living with illnesses in the area. For a list of participating restaurants, including a few DR.com faves like Corduroy and Firefly:

I'll be at Raku in Dupont for the evening, if anyone is in the neighborhood.

I got this in an email from Food and Friends:

Dining Out for Life – March 8th

It’s time to invite all your friends to join you for Dining Out For Life 2007! That’s right – you get to host an all-out fiesta with all the glory and none of the clean up! Sign up today to be a volunteer Ambassador for Food & Friends' 11th Annual Dining Out for Life, on Thursday, March 8.

We recruit more than 150 restaurants to participate that day – each of which donates 25% to 100% of their sales to Food & Friends. Each Ambassador will ‘adopt’ a restaurant, recruit friends to eat there on March 8, and be on-hand to answer questions about Food & Friends and encourage diners to make an additional contribution. There will be a brief training session where we will teach you the fine art of table hosting! Sign Up Now If you have any questions, please contact Meg Coffman, (202) 269-6878.

Help Us Ready Restaurants for Dining Out for Life ...

... by assembling and distributing Dining Out for Life promotional materials to restaurants around the area. Join us on Wednesday, February 7th, at 6:30 p.m. here at Food & Friends to assemble promotional materials for restaurants and then take some back to your neighborhood to distribute. Restaurant areas include: Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill, Bethesda, Silver Spring, Shirlington and Falls Church.

Contact Meg Coffman if you can help with this critical task; in your email, please include areas where you are willing to distribute materials to restaurants. We will have pizza for all!

I’m convinced there is an evil cabal determined to undermine my Fit for Summer efforts. Vietnamese on Tuesday, Cassoulet on Wednesday, Dining Out for Life on Thursday. Which means carrots, celery, and water on Monday and Friday.

It's strange how few downtown restaurants are participating. I just used the web site to pull them up and came up with four.

Check some of the other regions in addition to "Downtown". For example, Corduroy is listed under Logan Circle even though it is about 2 blocks from Luigino and Tuscana West, which are listed under "Downtown".

I would like to thank our customers who made it possible for us to donate almost $1500 to Food and Friends. Our guests also filled ot at least 50 donation envelopes giving money beyond the percentage contibution. It was a fun night indeed!

You're probably going to eat out on Thursday, March 5th, so why not benefit a good cause while you're at it? Food & Friends' annual Dining Out For Life fundraiser is scheduled for March 5th - mark your calendars & make reservations now! More information on participating restaurants will be added to the Food & Friends website as well as on this thread soon, so check back often.

The list of restaurants participating in this year's Dining Out for Life is growing (including Dino, Ray's The Classics, Bistro du Coin and other dcdining favorites). Check out the full list here.

If you're a restaurant that wants to participate there's still time. Send me a PM & I'll get you in touch with the folks at F&F!

It's a bump +...

Don't forget to make plans to eat out this Thursday night at one of the more than 150 restaurants participating in Dining Out for Life. If you feel the need to really put up bonus points, check out the list to see which places are signed up for lunch AND dinner, and give that brown bag a rest!

Now for the plus: if you are bummed out because you have plans on Thursday that preclude you from participating in DOL, I have the perfect opportunity to join in the fun on Wednesday night, March 4th.

The folks at CommonWealth have generously agreed to host a happy hour from 6 to 7:30 on Wednesday night to kick off the fundraiser with Food & Friends' executive director guest bartending (which will be a site to see, trust me). Bring friends, family, co-workers or just little ole you to help us make this year's Dining Out for Life a huge success. Hope to see you all there!

Mel

Promise this is the last post, but it's a good one! If for some reason you can't go out to dinner tonight, but you want to help out a great cause, consider making a donation online (any size - grossly generous down to a buck). In doing so, not only will you be helping Food & Friends continue supplying meals to people with serious illnesses, BUT you will be entered into a drawing for two roundtrip tickets on American Airlines. If you are going to a DOL restaurant tonight AND want to enter the drawing, talk to one of the Brand Ambassadors on site about the special envelopes they're carrying.

What's that they say about good karma?

If you're like me and were looking for a list of places for tonight, the link to the list of participating restaurants is borked this morning (of all days, today!). There is an older WaPo post containing a list, but I don't know how up to date it is. All of the other sites I found just had links to the official list.

Are you looking for a fun way to help the DC community that involves food AND friends? Then look no further! The non-profit organization Food & Friends is looking for volunteers to help make the 14th Annual Dining Out for Life as entertaining and rewarding as possible. On Thursday, March 11th, more than 150 restaurants around the DC Metro Area will donate 25 to 100 percent of their profits to support Food & Friends’ mission of providing nutritious meals to those facing serious illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and cancer.

To make the day the resounding success it should be, Food & Friends is calling on volunteers to act as “ambassadors” to represent Food & Friends at each restaurant. Ambassadors will visit the diners’ tables, thank them for coming out to support such a great cause, sign the diners up for the free sweepstakes and receive any extra contribution the diner may wish to give. Without volunteers, Food & Friends would not be able to continue home-delivering life-sustaining meals to thousands of area residents. Becoming an ambassador is an excellent way to help the community while having a great time. For more information, contact Eliza Yoder, Special Events Assistant, at eyoder@foodandfriends.org or 202.269.6826.

Just by Dining Out at a participating restaurant on Thursday, March 11th, diners across the DC metro region will not just be filling their stomachs, they will also be feeding their souls. Proceeds, ranging from 25 to 100 percent, of each meal purchased that day at more than 150 different area restaurants will benefit thousands of area residents served by Food & Friends. In fact, such popular restaurants as Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse, Posto and Ristorante Tosca are among those donating 100% of their profits for the night, with Freddie’s Beach Bar contributing 110%! These donations go a long way to ensure Food & Friends can continue to offer life-sustaining services of providing home-delivered meals to those facing serious illness such as HIV/AIDS and cancer. There’s no better way to help a great cause than going to eat at a fabulous restaurant.

Please visit www.foodandfriends.org/dol for more information, including a complete list of participating restaurants. For diners who have already decided which restaurant they would like to eat at for Dining Out for Life, reservations may be made at http://www.opentable.com/promo.aspx?m=9&pid=166. For more information, contact Eliza Yoder, Special Events Assistant, at 202.269.6826 or eyoder@foodandfriends.org

Bump....

Don't forget that Dining Out for Life is tomorrow - Thursday, March 11.

Details here.

There are lots of places to choose from for lunch, dinner - and even breakfast (well, only one choice for breakfast).

If you're dining out tomorrow, why not do it somewhere that will donate some of their proceeds to a great cause!

And if there's anyone in the Courthouse/Clarendon area who'd like to meet up for lunch at one of the participating restaurants, shoot me a PM.

Bumpity, bump - it's that time of the year!

Next Thursday, April 26.

List of participating restaurants.

Special note of thanks to the following restaurants who donated at least 50% of proceeds (from a purely business perspective, Freddie's made a brilliant move by donating that extra 10% - it bumped them right to the top of the list). Maybe people can reward these restaurants for their generosity by dining there on a regular night?
