Cuí±apes - Brazilian, Baked, Breakfast Cheese Rolls

This is my reference standard for cuí±apes:

These are available at Milan Bakery & Miss Doughnuts in West Falls Church. They don't look like much, but are quite delicious, and can possibly keep for two nights if wrapped. Does anyone know of any other sources so I can compare? Although the cuí±apes pictured aren't from this bakery, they look *exactly* alike. Quite remarkable, actually.

I'd actually call that a pí£o de queijo which is a tapioca-flour cheese bread.  You can make them at home, either from scratch (just google and you will find several recipes) or from a mix (the Yoki brand is good and can be found online and in local Brazilian markets).  If you want to just buy them they have them at my workplace cafeteria in the mornings (The Inter-American Development Bank - I'd be happy to let you in), or at the new Cafe Lia that I just posted about in Mount Pleasant.  They also have them at Fogo de Chí£o, but I am not impressed by theirs, and you probably don't want to spend $50 for meat just to get the cheese bread.

I used to see them sold frozen at the Brazilian Market in Wheaton, which is no longer there, but I bet they have them at the Portuguese Food Store (which sells Brazilian foods).

I have one of these each morning for breakfast at work (which necessitates my strict gym schedule) - and shhhh, it's not traditional, but they are excellent with a tiny dab of ketchup (a trick I learned while living in Brazil with an ex).

Ya'll got me craving pí£o de queijo like a madwoman, so we trekked over to a Brazilian grocer today.  They did not carry poviho azedo and poviho doce, but they did have an already-mixed variety.  As an experiment, I also picked up another bag that includes cheese powder (gasp!) as an ingredient.  I completed my purchase with the house-made frozen, completed recipe just to compare/contrast.

I'm going to rock a neighborhood party with an asiago jalapeí±o Brazilian cheese ball tasting.  OK, that sounds wrong...and awesome.

Pic shows both mixed yuca flour products.

My sister makes them and keeps them double-bagged in the freezer.  They bake up in minutes and taste great.  Here is the recipe.

OK, then. I printed out the recipe and will find the ingredients. Most likely, I will make them and freeze before baking. This is because, at some point when the weather cooperates, I have promised to have a "meet and greet" for DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and can see myself passing these around to a bunch of strangers. Might help; couldn't hurt.
