Gerhard *is* the most sought-after living artist (in terms of what prices his paintings command), but that is wholly separate from greatness. This is not to say Gerhard isn't a great artist (he is); I'm merely speaking in general terms. Now, in terms of greatness, he's no Sviatoslav, but the man can paint. And I'm not biased, either. In all seriousness, if we have any Richter experts here, I would be very much interested in your thoughts - I have always wanted to learn more about him than I know (and please don't send me running off to Wikipedia).
