Why is the Mandelbrot Set any more significant or inexplicable than Pi?

And have there been any attempts to relate them? This seems like a pretty obvious correlation to me; just don't ask me to explain why.

See, the big difference between Mandelbrot and Pi is that Mandelbrot is inside itself (that *was* the joke, right?). An infinite, non-repeating number is much more intuitively disturbing to me than something that's recursive.

Because if so, I have a hypothesis that quarks are absolutely not the smallest particles in the universe, and it's related to a Koch Snowflake (which in turn is related to all this other stuff including Elizabeth's joke).
