Rice Pot, Backlick Road in Annandale, South of Little River Turnpike

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the heads-up, my side of town & my kind of food-will try to get there soon. I was just telling my friend I can't remember the last time I had Chinese food that I loved or even liked (I think I've eaten at most of the subpar Chinese restaurants in my vicinity).

I'll leave it to Rocks and company to clear up this thread, but here's some clarification....

Pho Hong Anh is the one I've been writing about, in Springfield Plaza. "Hong Anh" is up Backlick Road, and is a different place. In fact, it's a stone's throw from Little River Turnpike so it should be in the Annandale listing.

(Google Translate gives "He rose" as in "He got up" as the translation of Hong Anh.)

But it's a moot point. I drove past it this morning and a sign saying "Rice Pot Asian Cuisine Coming Soon" was hanging over the door....so, in the Annandale listing I hope to see "Rice Pot Asian Cuisine" and in the Springfield listing I hope to see an elevated "Pho Hong Anh."

There *is* no Hong Anh on Backlick Road; assuming people were talking about what was at 4709 Backlick Road, it's now called Rice Pot. The question is: Which people were talking about which restaurant?

Bruce was obviously talking about Pho Hong Anh in Springfield Plaza; others were obviously talking about what used to be Hong Anh and is now Rice Pot, but not every post is clear - Scottee's post confuses me most of all, because I'm not sure anything was ever in Bradlick Center (other than yet another place called Pho Cong Ly); mdt's comes in second because he doesn't say where he was.

This is what used to be Hong Anh and is now Rice Pot - it's about 1/2 mile south of Little River Turnpike, essentially in Annandale.

In case you're wondering about the viability of this shopping center, keep in mind it's *very* close to the part of Little River Turnpike that is notorious for tour buses (the embarrassingly bad Magill's Pizza & Buffet, etc.), and if you look at the parking lot closely, it looks like it's designed for tour-bus parking. I would not be surprised if all these properties are owned by the same people, and that the "service station" is for tour buses.

I look at life differently than most. :)

I live near there and drive by with some frequency.  To this point, I've never seen a tour bus there.  The big draw is the service station -- closed on weekends, cash only really cheap gas during the week, and apparently good service for Hondas & Toyotas.

I work about a mile down Backlick, never noticed a tour bus either.  No idea why a tour bus would go anywhere that's not a buffet or a casino (same thing, almost).  I had my old Subaru serviced at the car repair place and was very pleased by the promptness and reasonable price.

Just got takeout.  Eggplant with garlic, very sweet (should have known better), but veggies (squash and bell pepper) nicely crisp.  Miso soup very bland but lots of tofu and seaweed. I don't want the eggroll but smelled it and the oil smells fresh, not oxidized. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again but it's very close to where I turn off for the library (turn on Cindy to avoid the cluster at Little River), so maybe.

Very nice people in an almost-moribund place.  I think maybe the hardware guy owns the buildings, can't think of any other reason he's still in business.  The Vietnamese place was closed for a year or two before Rice Pot rented it..
