When I was complaining about the lack of good Italian food in Arlington recently, this doesn't sound like the answer I was hoping for. From the owners of A-Town and Don Tito comes, Barley Mac, an "Italian American" fusion tavern with a beer and bourbon beverage program. . .

Stopped in for lunch at Barley Mac today. I ordered the Cubano, as I am still on my relentless search for the best Cubano in this area. The one at Barley Mac wasn't bad, but it's a long way from anything close to a superlative. It was on the small side, with not quite the right bun -- but not a bad bun -- and not quite pressed properly. The fillings were OK, with real sliced pork instead of the typical DC area pulled pork, but the pickles were flaccid and the kitchen snuck a mayo-based sauce inside the sandwich. I would grade it a C+ at most, and my choice of side was a bust. Why do so many restaurants just grab salad greens out of bag and throw them on a plate?
