Nice story and thanks for the reference.  Come to think of it, General Tso's chicken would be good for absorbing alcohol.  Good move.  I too have eaten endless plates and carryout of the dish.  Who would have thought this ubiquitous entree was the result of some level of desperation and  ingenuity.  Last I checked desperation and ingenuity cannot be found on maps of the Chinese mainland, let alone anywhere else.
