Tweaked
The Kogod Courtyard is one of the great public spaces in downtown DC. I think few people realize it is open until 7pm daily (as is the National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum). Best of all, they will allow outside food in the Courtyard (not to be consumed in the museum galleries obviously). Last night we were attending a reading at the Shakespeare Theater, and with time to kill between work and the reading, we packed a picnic and had dinner in the Courtyard. Smoked salmon, egg salad tartines, and salad greens. The Courtyard cafe (open until 6:30pm) sells alcohol if you want some beer or wine with your picnic. We arrived around 6:15 and most of the tables were empty at that hour.
