Chef's Tables

Before I read the Blue Duck Tavern thread by Mr. Food today about the chef's table, I had been thinking about them after going to 2941. I've never sat at one. Are they all kitchen side or in the kitchen? Who has them? Which ones would you recommend? I'd really like to have dinner at one, but I know absolutely nothing about what makes one experience different/better/more unusual, etc and I'm not rolling in cash to have the option of trying them all, it seems. Where would you recommend? Sorry if this is a repeat post. I did a couple of searches for this thread, but didn't come up with anything.

We're hosting my sister-in-law and nephew at the end of August (I know -- so soon!) -- I was thinking maybe it would be cool to take him to a chef's table, where he could really get into the experience of watching the team cook. Are there any really awesome chef's tables out there -- good, unintimidating food with a great view of the kitchen experience?

Thanks in advance!

Friends and I had a wonderful time at Pizzeria Orso, sitting at the counter at the pass, with Chef Will presenting the plates and chatting with us.  You get to see the pizzas being made all the time, and the use of the wood-fired oven; however, you don't see much of the rest of the cooking from that vantage point.
