Craptactular - I have to cancel as well. I'll catch the next one.

;)   :)

I spoke a bit too soon - my +1 friend still wants to join the group. So it's DanielK's +1 (Sheldon, not yet a member), but not DanielK. Treat him gently, please. <_<

Help. I was supposed to pick up MBK at the Clarendon metro and give her a ride. I was going to return her safely and promptly to DC. I had forgotten that Arlo Guthrie is playing at GMU. I don't want MBK not to be able to join everybody. Is anybody available to assume my responsibilities. I would greatly appreciate it. I feel terrible.

Thanks

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to bow out -- NCPinDC, don't feel bad -- I really should stay in tonight and get some work done. But the next time you guys venture out for good Chinese food, count me in.

Taking Don's clarion call to heart.......

$20 Tuesday?  We haven't done Vietnamese IIRC.  If we do it April 25, we can always conclude with a free cone at Ben and Jerry's nearby.  How's that for keeping it on the cheap end?

Anyone game?

I'd be game. And why do I see a group of 10 with 9 people ordering the caramel catfish?

Hmmmm. I have an idea for the next time Ben and Jerry's does their "Pick Our New Flavor" contest.

Seems like we have at least a half dozen folks for April 25....so why don't we say it's a tentative go and we'll do a head count on the 24th.

You can add Grover and I as well. I'm always game to try a new Vietnamese place.

Can we go for a time?  7:00PM good?  6:30 PM too early?  We can make it anytime after 5:30PM so almost any time is good for us.

We'll resolve the 24th or so. This will not be a planned menu dinner/event. I'll say now to figure approx. 7pm. It may or may not change. It probably won't.

Just wanted to start planning on when to stop eating so I can pay proper homage to the food.

To encourage the renewed neighborhood feel at Ray's, and to cut a spring break for those whose appetites exceed their bank balances, we are now offering the following special:

$20 Bistro Dinner

Choice of:

Cup of Crab Bisque or Onion Soup/or Mixed Greens or Caesar Salad

Choice of:

Hangar Steak or Salmon (Diablo/Blackened/or Grilled)

Mashed Potatoes/Creamed Spinach

This offer is open to anyone, anytime (until further notice, but at least the next weeks) but Rockwellians can expect the usual second class treatment.

For those concerned about waits, so far the new system is working this way:

We are doing as much business, if not more, as before, but in a much more easy-goin atmosphere. However, waits are minimal--usually 20-30 minutes, sometimes 45, rarely up to an hour and 15 minutes (our average dining time is and always was a comfortable 75-80 minutes despite all the whining). Those who arrive before 6:15 should be seated right away. No promises, but that is the way it has been working so far.

I am going to post this in "Twenty Dollar Tuesdays" as well so that people who don't even bother with the Ray's thread, assuming that any new post is either a shrill attack or even shriller counter-attack, will hear about the deal as well.

Look forward to seeing you all soon.

Also, another good candidate for a $20 Tuesday is Cafe La Ruche. Good on the patio, quaint; there's no epiphany, but it's pleasant. I did it for, like $23 with with wine, and then moved down 31st Street to Lowes to catch a show. Also, there was a dude playing guitar on the patio, a really great song as I left. What was that song? I forget.

Craig and I are going to have to make our regrets on this one. But, I look forward to your reviews and thanks for organizing this.

You're in, Stephen.  I haven't been there myself, but according to the map it's like dead between Courthouse and Clarendon metro stations....so a little bit further than a few blocks up from Ray's.

I am iffy for tonight, but will let you know later. Did you call to warn them about the crowd?

Enjoy yourself tonight. We went there for lunch two weeks ago. Based on that, I would avoid the crispy fried calamari entree. The shrimp cakes, spring rolls and garden rolls were excellent.

There is a parking lot on the side. Make sure to get a token from the restaurant before leaving.

I haven't been to Afghan Restaurant probably since Eve Zibart wrote this review in the Post. But, with a reminder about this place from Capital Icebox, I was thinking it would make a pretty decent spot for a $20 Tuesday. Essentially across from Potomac Yards on the Arlington/Alexandria line, it's a pretty short bus/cab/carpool ride from either the Crystal City or Braddock Road metro stations.

Would anyone else have interest in giving it a go for $20 Tuesday? Next week is too soon. May 23rd might be ok. The following week is just after Memorial Day, and I don't know if that's a good idea. And there's June 6 after the picnic.

Perhaps we should just assess first whether folks might be interested in trying it? Anyone else game for a Tuesday evening?

When I was working in the area (last couple of years) a few of us used to go there for their buffet lunch. Seemed to do a decent business at lunch with various meat, fish, and veggie dishes that were good, although some were a little greasy, and I have always wanted to try it out for dinner.

I say just pick a date, like May 23rd, and those that can come will. No reason to make it a big project.

Grover and I are thinking about doing a $20 Tuesday, "Red Devil, Straight out of Napalm, Spicy and we mean SPICY, Korean dinner"...this one will be spicy only (with a non-spicy something just for contrast). At the last Korean dinner, some people thought the food wasn't spicy at all. This one will be Grover's revenge. Anyone interested? Obviously this isn't going to happen next weekend (Watkins Glen and 40 other crazy Honda S2000 owners) but sometime in late June or early July.
