  1. I'd like to join in the fun too--need to talk to the troops to make sure we don't have any conflicts. And of course decide what to bring!
  2. Well that was the single most annoying flash intro I've ever encountered....
  3. For a piece titled "New late-night dining spots in DC" I don't know why they would mention Ben's Chili Bowl, but they do.
  4. So you're telling me I shouldn't be out dancing with the 20 somethings from my office until 3am while Joe is home with Peanut?
  5. Hoppin' John. The varient I grew up on includes black-eyed peas, rice, onions and ham hocks Mmmmmm.
  6. Speaking of service: I was in late last night in the middle of the "snow storm" and had a great service experience that I wanted to share. Jason was wonderful! If you don't know him, which incredibly I didn't (incredibly given how often I am at RTC), Jason is one of the cooks but was regularly out front to deliver plates to customers. I was at the bar by myself and he was cheerful and attentive. I had the lentil soup--MMMmmmm. The perfect food for a cold winter night. And the bacon wrapped scallops, which I love. Extremely tender.
  7. Now that I'm a parent, I miss the days my Dad would tell me about when he took me and my brother trick or treating in Hot'Lanta in the late 70s: at every house, my brother and I would grab candy after the obligatory "trick or treat" while the host would offer my Dad a drink. My Dad loved Halloween, he reminds me wistfully. Apparently this tradition is still practiced in Old Town but I haven't been able to convince JPW to make the trip across the river.
  8. Thank you Jason. A wonderful chance to sample your chocolates. I liked the mint too, not to mention the bourbon, the fleur de sel caramels, the brownies, the hot chocolate was dreamy...... ok, Peanut and I were doing some serious sampling. I have never seen her eat so much chocolate. She left with chocolate all over her face! Every single bite was delicious!
  9. Pizza and pancakes (though not together) are great. Peanut loves to, as she says, help me with the ingredients. I would also recommend anything pasta-related. Whether or not they help you make it, kids love the stuff! Although...Peanut will not go anywhere near mac and cheese..... As far as I can tell, the point of showing kids movies at home is so that the adults can go sit on the porch and drink and smoke. My standard for these films is that they must be mesmerizing. The Muppets, Mary Poppins and Madagascar are tried and true favs. The older movies are better because they can run to almost 2 hours. You know, kids had longer attention spans in the 60s and 70s.
  10. Thanks for all your suggestions/recommendations! Based on proximity to my office and level of professionalism appropriate to the meeting, Tabbard Inn and The Mayflower were the finalists. I chose the Mayflower because my client had stayed at Tabbard Inn recently, dining there several times during her stay. I figured she would want to try something new. The Mayflower impressed. The first words out of my client's mouth were, "Wow, beautiful hotel." I was a bit underwhelmed by the set up of the the lobby's cafe though. I expected china cofee cups and table service. What we got was counter service with Starbucks coffee in paper cups. The food available was whole fresh fruit and pastries. I had the largest bran muffin known to exist. I thought to myself, "Was this shot with human growth hormone?! It's the size of my head!" It was very moist, but over the top. It was gummy and not very flavorful. I ate as much of it as I had room for though since I worked out this morning and was starving. I know they say, "Here at the Mayflower we're proud to serve Starbucks," but who knows why they would brag about that. As per usual the coffee tasted overly roasted if not burned. The setting was spot on but the food and drink, not so much. Of course, I don't think my client picked up on any of this. (She had tea and a human-sized slice of banana bread.) We had a great meeting, and that's what was really important. It's a great spot for a casual business chat, and I'd probably go again. I would like to compare with an experience at Tabbard Inn though.
  11. I'm taking a client out to coffee next week and am looking for a suitable place, in other words not Starbucks, Saxbys etc., where we could go in the south of Dupont Circle area. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
